Who I Blame For The Current Depressed State Of America

The Media

No matter what channel you watch, or what radio show you listen to, The Media has been doing nothing but stoking the flames of hate.

The reports are ALL negative - the editorials are ALL negative - instead of offering ANY positive future, it is ALL negative!

If politicians from both sides agree on something, it is ignored, and all The Media does is magnify disagreements.

Reports show that people who watch too much news are very depressed people.

I wonder why....

The Demon 08-12-2010 11:28 AM

Reports also show that people who read BFT3K's posts are more likely to commit suicide than those who don't. (Source Needed)

They have realized what the rest have not yet. There is no way to ever win. The deck has been stacked for a very long time. What we see today are just the results of that. For all the media's fear mongering & hate-spreading, all the "outcry" from the bagger nuts, the bs promises from ALL politicians, and all the division amongst the peoples.... there is still no way to ever win. We are fucking doomed. :)

Why don't you work with me to build up the Pecker Pass Network - everyone wants affiliate promo content, and rumor has it you are a designer.

Hit me up... support @ PeckerPass.com

Maybe we can make a few bucks together, and ignore the politics for a bit?

Dont watch the TV news. I never watch it any more.

Atticus 08-12-2010 11:47 AM

I completely agree.

Instead of the $750 billion plus stimulus package the government should have gone to the big media companies (behind closed doors of course) and offered them big $$ to ease up on the negative economy coverage and focus on the positive. Would of been a ton cheaper and had much better results.

It's pretty common sense. If the average middle class family is bombarded with bad news and how the sky is falling they get scared to spend money. Instead of that dinner at Olive Garden they eat at home to save the money. Now, if all they see is how great everything is and how the economy is improving rapidly they arent as inclined to save as much and they spend. The more spending, the better the economy actually improves.

It's a bit of a spiral out of control thing. Get miserable. Watch a load of TV because you can't be bothered to do anything else. Brain rots. Watch more TV because you now genuinely can't manage to do anything else.

I've seen old people sit all day watching TV just for a bit of comfort instead of sitting in isolation going nuts. Instead they still go nuts but nuts with really strong opinions on things.

Barry didn't help

"Start with Obama's big meeting with top congressional leaders on his signature legislation -- the stimulus -- on the Friday after his inauguration. Listening to Republican concerns about overspending was a nice gesture -- until he shut down any hopes of real dialogue by crassly telling Republican leaders: 'I won.' Even the White House's leaking of the comment was a slap at the Republican leadership, who'd expected Obama to adhere to the custom of keeping private meetings with congressional leadership, well, private.

"It's only gone downhill from there. The stimulus included zero Republican recommendations, and failed to get a single House Republican vote.

He has done more to polarize the country than any one single president in history

This thread wasn't meant to start a left/right debate.

It was just my opinion about conditions overall - unrelated to party affiliation.

Tom_PM 08-12-2010 12:00 PM

I'm sick of them using the old, "Your critics would say........" bullshit.

Hey guess what? Your critics would say you are a worthless piece of shit who should fall out of existence post haste. How do you respond to that?

How about this once in a while, "Your supporters would say..." you are the best person ever, you dress nice, you smell like a flower and you taste like delicious candy. How do you respond to that?

Start a thread about political polarization. I'm sure it will get lots of attention!

It's that polarizing that has had fed the press, caused the upheaval of groups like the Tea Party and caused so many pissed off people, VOTERS

It's sad that Sarah Palin has more clout backing someone in an election than the president of the united states does

Divide and Conquer the mob. They have done it since before Rome because it works.
They are all controlled by the corporations and they are all about greed. I don't allow my man to watch any news or read any news. How can you report to the American people and think you have a clue when you make 7 million a year to be a talking head? Watch Jon Stewart, let him get paid, laugh at it, try to Vote if they let you and forget about it. :(:) Have sex, that is what I do. :thumbsup

When people are happy they "make things happen" not just sit around hoping and
praying for some miracle.

while true enough, you present a relatively shallow analysis.

because it's too shallow, you make yourself vulnerable to the shallow strawman and adhominem whining of the baggers.

baggers will whine barry barry barry because it's the strategy they've been told to use by their owners - and it works among baggers because they are too dimwitted to realize what a decent argument would look like, ad hominem and straw man is as far as their rhetoric goes.

if your presentation was meant to be bagger bait you forgot to add the poison pill.

if it's meant to provoke thought you have to dig a few layers deeper.

the depression line was a throwaway, and because it's clearly pointless it invites adhominem.

now thats a nice rhetorical riposte.

sneering truth always has a place in the rhetors toolbag.

ultimately it doesn't progress the argument, but it does nicely define the boundaries of the fighting cage.

the original post was inherently weak, and invited counterattack, yours had the virtue of being true and funny.

but if your argument is that the media are innocents and all is the fault of we stupid americans, well, the media isn't a pure and innocent freemarket virgin, so everybody can see you are avoiding the issue.

so its a bitchslap, with all the pointlessness of any bitchslap.

even tho everything you said is inherently true.

Agreed, I have hired a number of 'out of work' Americans to do odd jobs ranging from writing to some grunt work etc .. as a way to help some of these guys out... and all of them are so fucking lazy it defies belief. They are incapable of understanding the concept of deadlines, the standard of work is shoddy at best, and I think I have heard every excuse possible (how can your dog die twice?).

I will stick to hiring the nationalities who appreciate having work and put some effort into it ... especially since I pay well.

If people weren't uneducated/stupid/uncritical/overly-credulous then the increasingly tabloid media wouldn't be a problem. Honestly, what educated person, no matter their political bent would watch Glenn Beck as anything more than a sideshow?

Is it any wonder he has the same advertisers as Art Bell?

Coup 08-12-2010 04:26 PM

the media only provide what the people WANT to watch. not what they NEED to watch. you can blame the repeal of the fairness doctrine for that.

NaughtyRob 08-12-2010 04:29 PM

while true, it's not clear where you want to go with this line of argument.

I see two most likely paths.

The first is that americans should be smarter. Accepted as stipulated. What then, where do you take that line of argument?

The second is that the media is innocent, a freemarket automaton guided only by the invisible hand.

now thats a line of argument I'd like to see you try to support. thats where the heart of the beast would be, if it turns out that the media isn't innocent.

all of the major tribes have at times made the argument that the media is NOT innocent, and all have also made arguments that the media IS innocent, depending on wether or not the media is saying something they like.

pretty much everyone agrees americans are stupid fucks who deserve what's happening to them. the spin on this varies a bit tribally but not enough to matter.

is the media innocent? that's the real question.

You'd be surprised. I've been to private parties around here locally and seen Glenn Beck's book on their shelves with my own eyes. People you'd never guess in a million years they'd ever spend one dime on anything GB had to say.

Agreed, but GB is shallow enough to warrant an exception. If there's anything in his book that would sway me IRL, I'd be the first one to admit being completely shocked. Any "message" he thinks he has is watered down & discounted by his extreme antics. I feel the same about Rush. I gave his show a few years of listening so that I could be objective on him. I got nothing out of it. Rush is in it for Rush (money) and nothing else. GB is no different. It's just business. :winkwink:

Were I to see Glenn Beck's book on a friend of mine's shelf it would be akin to paying that very same friend a surprise visit only to catch him sodomizing his canine.

Good taste and discretion would compel me to tip toe back out the door and never to make mention of the unspeakable.
