Senate approves $600 million in border security funds
Senate approves $600 million in border security funds - Aug 2010
Washington (CNN) -- Two senators -- Democrats Charles Schumer of New York and Ben Cardin of Maryland -- returned from their August recess Thursday to give their chamber's approval for $600 million in emergency funding to help secure the U.S.-Mexico border. The measure, which has already been approved by the House of Representatives, now advances to President Obama's desk to be signed into law. The bill passed by unanimous consent, a parliamentary term for a voice vote that doesn't require the return of the entire Senate chamber. GOP leaders had agreed to the maneuver. Among other things, the bill provides for roughly 1,500 new law enforcement agents, new unmanned aerial vehicles, new forwarding operating bases and $14 million in new communications equipment. LINK :2 cents: Now we can whine about this adding to the debt. |
Jesus Christ.

Seems low. That money will quickly be spent.
What they need to do is start closing down military bases in prime land and start building military bases on the border in the middle of no place on the border. Just above San Diego the US Marines have Camp Pendleton - and what a beautiful base it is too! Close that shit down, and move them to the Mexican border. It's win win. The government will end up with billions in it's pocket from selling off the land, and will move everything to the border where it's needed most - and have our fucking military protect our borders already. |
Lets see how much actually gets used for border protection and what ends up in peoples pockets along the way.
Its sad, but i just don't trust our government, its intentions, and the people who run it anymore. |
Funny how they went home on recess and found an angry mob telling them to fix this and went back to DC early to do it to save their ASS

At least this $600MM is for our own country's defense right here at home.
We definitely need this so I don't see a problem with it. The Mexicans are fucking us over on the border, killing our police and citizens, and even ended up having part of our country cordoned off because of the AMOUNT of trafficking they are doing in the area and their propensity to kill anyone that see's them. So what is wrong with this? We need it to protect our country from illegal immigrants, drug smuggling, human smuggling, etc. My only complaint, is that with all the other stupid shit we waste money on, that this ONLY got $600MM. |
that works out to about 75 feet of fence.

Sweet, looks like the Obama Admin is doing more than ever to secure our borders... every step helps!
|
It's not even all tax dollars:
"The bill is funded in part by imposing higher fees on personnel companies that bring foreign workers into the United States." |
wait, no this is a debt our grandchildren will have to pay? No one yelling border bail out?

I'm fine. I don't have debt. It doesn't bother me if a country has debt.
