The Expendables, super cool or a desperate idea?

Are you going to see it?

I'm not.

If Gene Simmons was among them, I'd go see it. :1orglaugh

Amputate Your Head 08-12-2010 08:08 AM

I'll wait till it comes on USA or TNT for free in a couple years. :2 cents:

Sly 08-12-2010 08:08 AM

I think it's a must see just to see what they could possibly do with all of these guys in one movie. I've been looking forward to it. I don't think I've gone to the theater all year, this might be the one that pulls me in!

CaptainHowdy 08-12-2010 08:10 AM

Looks like a steroidal mess...

The Ghost 08-12-2010 08:13 AM

Going to see it for sure.

pornstar2fag 08-12-2010 08:15 AM

Is Stuart Lawley starring in that movie too?

Caligari 08-12-2010 08:17 AM

Super Stupid

PR_Glen 08-12-2010 08:19 AM

i think its a bit of both really.. but lets not forget, desperation is what got rocky made in the first place...

Don't get me wrong i'm not saying that's whats happening here, i'm sure it will just be lots of testosterone and explosion fun but what guy wouldn't want to see something like this?

Oceans 11 on steroids? count me in!

cyber 08-12-2010 08:19 AM

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_expendables/

46% on Rotten Tomatoes

jgabra62 08-12-2010 08:22 AM

I cant imagine how it could be a good movie...but I will absolutely go see it!
There is nothing wrong with going to see a movie that is purely testosterone driven packed with explosions and fight scenes...it can be purely entertaining without having to do any thinking.

The Dawg 08-12-2010 08:23 AM

If it was made 15-20 years ago it would have been hot. Now... not so much.

iSpyCams 08-12-2010 08:24 AM

Doesn't it seem like Forrest Whitaker doesn't belong? I have enjoyed alot of his roles but I cant remember him being an action star. There was Ghost Dog, but he didn't seem to fit in that movie either.

I guess not every person in a movie has to be an action star, but putting him in with 7 bruisers makes him seem kind of out of place.

John-ACWM 08-12-2010 08:41 AM

Don't care. As long as Hollywood is not knows for only great decisions.
And I don't think Forest Whitaker is in that movie.

Tom_PM 08-12-2010 09:01 AM

Why see it?

Explosions.
Weapons.
Fire.
Stupid jokes.
Maybe tits.

End of movie.

Couple of years? I bet it hits HBO/Movie Central by spring 2011. Ten months from now, tops.

And I too will watch it then.

Q for all -- Does Arnie have a cameo in it? I could have swore I saw him in one of the trailers.

purescotty 08-12-2010 09:13 AM

Lol, Forest Whitaker isn't even in THIS movie.

justinsain 08-12-2010 09:18 AM

First, I'm glad they didn't include Steven Segal. ( never believed him as an action figure )

Second, I think it's a cool idea.

Third, If they don't take themselves seriously and do make jokes and references to
their old characters ( It would be funny to see something like Stone Cold stop to help Stallone up the stairs ) it will be entertaining.

Fourth, I won't see it in the theater but looking forward to renting it.

Far-L 08-12-2010 09:20 AM

These kind of action flicks are some of the classics, think "Dirty Dozen", "Kelly's Heroes" etc. Nothing wrong with paying homage to those.

Wrong to judge anything sight unseen, imo.

Might be great. Might suck. But just because last Rambo picture didn't suck, had crazy action and epic violence, this might be a dude movie worth checking out.:2 cents:

Bex 08-12-2010 09:21 AM

I think it's a good idea for a movie. Think how many action fans this movie appeals to.

Uma Thurman

SykkBoy 08-12-2010 05:18 PM

Forest Whitaker was replaced by Terry Crews (better choice anyways, imho)

I can't wait to see it...these guys aren't getting any younger but can still kick some ass...and that's pretty much what their characters are...this old group of guys getting ready to hang it up, but going on a final mission (and another final mission in the sequel if this one makes enough money).

This movie is exactly what they are advertising: a fun, no holds barred, macho action flick with a high body count and lots of explosions...if that's not your cup of tea, that new Julia Roberts movie also opens this weekend...so go see that instead...that's what my fiancee and I are doing...she's going to see the chick flick and I'm going to go see the guy flick...then we're going to go see Scott Pilgrim the next night...

what guy could hate a movie that is rated R for: strong action and bloody violence through and for language ??

From yahoo news today. Pretty impressive.

"Dolph Lundgren has a master's degree in chemical engineering, was a Fulbright scholar at M.I.T., speaks seven languages, was an elite marine ranger in the Swedish military, and is a third degree black belt in Kyokushin karate"

Interesting mix of careers that were formerly great, formerly great and now coming back, and great but slipping and hanging on.

WOW! Talk about one hell of a yoga pose. How do they keep from breaking their necks?

Spunky 08-12-2010 08:13 PM

I'll wait for the rental, looks like it might be good though

It starts with training their necks, there are some exercises to straighten muscles there even before getting upside down on the head - its done for a few weeks or couple of months.
Then they start practicing standing on their heads against a wall with their hands down in triangular shape with elbows against the floor and palms locked behind their heads - it provides good support, trying to keep balance and not to touch a wall, once comfortable in that position, they do it with no wall support behind. Eventually getting very good at it and strengthening neck muscles that they feel comfortable standing in that position without hands support either. They get out of this position same way they get to it in reverse - putting feet down in front of themselves. As you've guessed landing on a back can lead to traumatic results - if you end up falling back, there is a way to group body to minimize the risk, but it's strongly not recommended to fall backwards.

Nothing wrong with desperation. Desperation led to one of the best video game series of all time, Final Fantasy, what would have been Squaresoft's final attempt at video games if it flopped.

That said, I personally think it's worth at least checking out. It might not be good, but with some of the badasses in it, I doubt it'd be bad at least.

SBJ 08-13-2010 12:52 AM

I'll go see it one day next week cause my sister will be intown and she likes going to the movies. I'm not expecting it to be a awesome movie that will blow me away with plot or acting and I expect it to be a lot like "Tropic Thunder" was.. If you go to a movie not expecting to be amazed by plot or acting you can enjoy a movie like this.. :2 cents:

seeandsee 08-13-2010 12:57 AM

i will watch that badass movie with stupid plot :)
