Unix on WinXP
How can I run a Unix server on WinXp (for script testing purposes)?
What is the easiest software out there to use to get this done? Need Apache, Mysql, PHP, shell, java. Jimmy |
Even biggest idiot should be able to run this:
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html But when it comes to shell that is little tricky,on your place i would rather install http://www.virtualbox.org/ ,install linux on it and then do whatever you want instead bother with windows emulation. |

Thanks. Xampp was the easiest and working for what we needed so far.

Virtualbox is good. |
virtualboxes.org :)

I have been looking for this same exact thing. Xampp was the only thing that worked and still is only a windows server, not linux so most scripts did not work correctly, I could not set proper permissions on my files and shell commands were useless. If anyone finds a true solution for running a working linux server on a windows machine, please let me know.
Oh... I also tried a couple usb stick servers as well. Worked but with problems. always problems. probably windows problems. |
I'd go w virtualbox + a linux/unix distro
|
i just install apache/php/mysql straight on windows, don't have need for shell and java though
|
virtualbox or vmware
|
The virtual machines are good as long as you have a really powerful machine. :2 cents:
