US school road marking spelt wrongly

http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/image..._shcool_ap.jpg

Workers have misspelled the word school on a road approaching a high school in North Carolina in the United States.

Crews painted "shcool" on the approach road to Southern Guilford High School.

The road had been recently repaved and crews were working to mark out the school zones.

The company which was responsible said it had "made a mistake" and it would be fixed. A spokesperson said the paint was "interim paint" that is used before the final paint is applied.

That's why they work on a road crew.

Going by what most English teachers tell their students, sentences shouldn't start with the word "and" either (though authors do it all the time). :)

pornguy 08-11-2010 01:57 PM

And is proper in some cases but very few.

Such as.

I bet there was a new guy on the crew that got fired for arguing to correct the
spelling before it was painted.

With how much more kids are becoming dependent on that great red squiggly line and auto spell checker, the worse natural spelling will get. It's rather sad.

My friend just told me a story of a very intelligent 14 year old that spelled neighbor "nabor."

When I get resumes if people can't spell or use horrible grammar, they are immediately disqualified from getting the job.

StinkyPink 08-11-2010 03:13 PM

See told ya.

Look at all the spelling geniuses in the house. Every one of you would be put to shame by a single kid from India. :1orglaugh

Spelt is more of an English way of writing Spelled.

Didn't English originate in England?

It's exactly what happened with the calculator. I once had a salesman pull out a calculator to add 17 and 45.

This pic has been floating around for years, the fact that the BBC thinks this is a something to write about proves they are about as bad as CNN when it comes to having to fill web pages with content.

At least one of the teachers at the school probably had the person that made the mistake as a student. I grew up with all the adult friends of the family being teachers and I am sure they are having a few drinks and laughing at that turn of events.

Yeah, I'm kinda freaky with numbers and can add really quickly in my head.

I have had to tell many o' people the answer to the problem they are trying to figure out on a calculator. My favorite is the cash registers that tell you what coins to give back. It say's $1.42 in change. 1 $1 bill, 1 quarter, 1 dime, 1 nickel, 2 pennies. Oy vey.
