Shooting Adult

I've got a decade of mainstream shooting under my belt. I can run camera, edit, light (well), get sound, even a bit of graphical work.

What opportunities are there for someone like me to "break in" to shooting adult? For awhile I'd see some adult companies posting on mainstream production sites for shooters or editors, but that has dropped to almost nothing. I assume that unless you live in LA, LV, PHX, or MIA that any shooting is for a specific producer who just happens to live near you or is done by yourself for yourself...right or wrong? In LA, LV, PHX, and MIA are most tech crew employees of a production company (whether dvd or site based) or are they a collection of freelancers?

Shoot content. Sell on clip store. Once you get the handle of traffic generation, driving sales, and shit. Then launch a pay site. Wash, rinse, repeat. Then you are making a living in this industry. After a few years, license some of your older stuff.

Check the "Getting Started" link. That will give you a starting point padawan.

Couple questions...

Who are the sites that offer the best chances for success in terms of a clip store?

Does the clip store scenario offer a reasonable return on your investment?

How do model pay rates vary based on the fact that a clip store is a different venue than a full blown web site or dvd production?

This is a no brainer. Shoot any vid with any terms for 125 and include 100 to 150 pics. If u get any hate for low balling simply say that u understood the vids to be only 5 minutes long and only 25 bucks under going rate.
Rinse and repeat if called out for only 25 dollars less each time. Keep repeating till you are paying out of pocket for shoots yet have many friends.
You will be well on your way in no time

1. Look at their main page and niches.
2. Depends on how you control costs, and if you are consistent.
3. My model rates are always the same. So no idea how others shoot.

All of your Hollywood experience wont help you at this stage of the game. You need to find a director or a producer and be a PA or PM. You need to see how these guys run their sets before you try and run one yourself. If not, you will loose a lot of your money or even worse, someone else's.

Keep in mind all because i can shoot a gun doesn't mean i be a cop or a combat Marine.

You need to learn how be the nail, before you can ever be the hammer.:2 cents:

Here's a thread to give you some insight into shooting porn.

http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showth...o+shoot+p orn

I'm not sure what your skills are with a camera but today getting that bit right for porn is a piece of piss. In fact even in the days of film it wasn't rocket science. Get the exposure and focus right and you're half way there.

Complicated lighting are for niches that don't sell so well today. Most of the lighting in porn is pretty simple. HD produces a good image and being able to test and review the scene before shooting on a monitor or laptop, makes life very easy.

The problem today is shooting a decent scene within the budget of what most people will pay. Finding good new models. A buyer will not want models who have been shot to death by everyone else. Then shooting something that sells.

That's the biggest problem for a newbie. Anyone can point a camera at a girl or couple having sex.You need to be able to turn a film into porn. What ever your skills are with the equipment shooting porn is about skills with people.

As for shooting for yourself, depends how much money you can afford to invest before you need to get a return on your investment.

Not trying to squabble/quibble but the manufacturer describes it as a nail gun (see the URL of the photo), with combo capabilities.

My main point was that with a good strong mainstream background / skill set, the OP can quite possibly make his own way in the biz, while gleaning what he can from other select companies/producers.

The best people I have learned from in the biz, are those that have their own sense of creativity, and do not merely copy by rote what they have seen someone else do.

That said, if you ever need a PA/Intern, give me a holler...I may be an old dog in this biz, but I still love to learn new tricks from people such as you, whom know what they are doing, and do it well. :)
