Obama salutes promised end of US combat in Iraq
ATLANTA – Nearing a milestone in the long and divisive Iraq war, President Barack Obama on Monday hailed this month's planned withdrawal of all U.S. combat troops — "as promised and on schedule" — as a major success despite deep doubts about the Iraqis' ability to police and govern their country.

Just get our guys home ..... who cares about the rest.

I'm waiting to see what Glenn Beck has to say about this important event before I make my official statement.
|
"A transitional force of 50,000 troops will remain to train Iraqi security forces, conduct counterterrorism operations and provide security for ongoing U.S. civilian efforts. Under an agreement negotiated in 2008 with the Iraqis, all American troops are to be gone from Iraq by the end of next year. "
That's the end of 2011. Not the end of this month. |
Ummm... yeah I'd say he's pretty late and him bringing the troops home has nothing to do with him pushing for it and everything to do with the contract signed by Bush back in 2007...

Read it again ...where in there did I say anywhere that I even remotely liked Bush as a person or a president or that he was some kind of savior? Now go fuck yourself. |

The plan is for us to never NOT have troops there. They will just call them something other than combat troops.

It's a fucking mess over there and they need to just pull out, unless we can get oil or lithium, it's not worth just getting shot at, our troops can do that in Arizona on the border |

Lets see how many Americans are killed monthly AFTER the combat troops are gone! ALL TROOPS weather they are Labled Combat, Cupport, What ever need to come home, and not sent out to Afgan. We have way to many problems here to be worried about other places, no matter who started the war for what reasons, or promises made. Bring our guys home, take care of America! |
right on.

WMDs? The establishment of a nice cozy little puppet government? Winning over the indigenous peoples? Burning billions of taxpayer $$? Rooting out evil from the nomad goat herders? "Defeating terrorism"? what a complete waste everything connected to Iraq has been. :disgust |

50,000 troops will remain and the rest is being farmed out to private military companies.

do you know how much a govt contractor makes vs a soldier... i say kick out the contractors and let the troops stay.. the last i heard, we still have an all volunteer military... when people sign up for service they know there is a chance they will go to war.. even if the war is a total mistake, i am not down for getting my tax dollars spent for over priced security guards... . |

I don't think I'm missing the point, I think you are. Quote:
Looks like he is fighting a tactic. We can not even rid LA of gang violence yet somehow we are going to be able to change a whole political and religious culture of the entire region and Obama thinks that is a modest goal.... So what are the steps to make sure that we stop "Afghanistan from returning to being a terrorist haven"? |
