ive finally stepped up out of the stoneage adn ditched windows XP
after resisting upgrading OS systems my main machine finally decided to crap out on me and I had to fiinally do the ole handy format C and start all over again. This time instead of jumping to Windows 7 I decided to jump into Vista. Can anyone with this OS tell me how reliable it is and is it worth it to keep or should I go right to 7?

Vista's constant nagging and asking you if you really want to "open this program, the one you clicked on, yeah, the one you use all the time" gets old. Windows 7 still gets annoying sometimes, but it's infinitely better than Vista. XP is still the best, though. |
don't even think about vista, either install xp again, or go for windows 7...
|
I've heard nothing but good things about Windows 7. But I agree with the poster above, XP still rocks!
|
Get rid of Vista. Although I do have it on one computer and have had minimal problems, windows 7 is just a lot better. More stable and has some really neat features built into it.
|
XP or 7 - NOT Vista
otherwise you can also install Windows ME |
bad move to upgrade to vista when there's superior product available. 7 rocks!
|
I was one of the ones who figured if it wasnt broke don't fix it. XP lasted for me pretty good for a very long time. Maybe I will just take the plunge into 7

vista sucks.

XP is the best windows OS since 3.1, 2000 or NT.
I have not used 7 much as I switched to a mac 2 years ago and would never go backwards. |
vista? U would have been better off installing a virus in your xp machine.....

Lol at installing windows vista

windows 7 . best windows by far

My laptop & two of my desktop workstations are still running Win XP and I do not feel compelled to upgrade them just yet. My video editing & encoding machine however is Vista 64 bit. It works fine for me despite all the issues other people report, but I don't love it. If you are starting afresh, you may as well go right to Windows 7.

No problems with Vista. I never set up a new OS on an old computer, better buy a new one with the latest OS, windows 7 that is.
Also better cause you always have new website visitors with the latest OS and you have to test if the sites still working. I had someone by whom the videochat didn't work on explorer 64bit. But it worked on 32 bit. |

I am ready to migrate my stuff to Linux...... and for those Motha fucking programs that refuse to run in wine (very few btw) I'll just use virtual box
|
i still love XP and have zero reason to switch imo.
|
XP for life... FUCK NO to Vista and even though Windows 7 isn't supposed to be as shitty, fuck no to it for looking like Vista!

I have 4 computers: 1 Quad Core running Vista, 1 Dual Core running XP, 1 iMac 27" (Pictured), and 1 Macbook. Out of all of the machines, the iMac 27" kicks ass. It's fast, its quiet, it never fails. The Macbook is great too but slower of course. My Dual Core running XP is FASTER than my Quad Core running Vista (64 bit). My macs completely boot in less than 30 seconds, while my Vista takes over 4 freakin' minutes to fully boot. The XP machine takes about 2 minutes. Vista is a horrible OS. The worst ever I think. I still like XP but I know it's like 5 years old or something. I haven't tried WIndows 7 but have heard good things. My MACS however I love. The iMac is FAST. The Macbook's battery lasts over 4 hours and 30 minutes of actual use. Built in 802.11n kicks ass. Macs rule. I loves me my macs. |

Avoid Vista at all costs. If you must stay with Windows consider Windows 7. It seems quite a bit better than Vista from my experience.
For a better experience altogether and maximum freedom (not to mention security) consider Linux. Ubuntu is a popular Linux distribution which many new Linux users start off with. The downside is that there will be some work involved in making the switch. I would also recommend a Mac if Linux is not feasible for you. |
avoid vista and go straight to W7
|
Well since I Abe poste this thread I have had three blue screen of deaths and they all come after trying to bring my comp out of sleep mode. Seems like vista shuts down my USB ports when this happens and I am getting blue screen loops. Looks like I will have to buy windows 7 :(

You will enjoy Win 7.

go to 7, its good

Stepped out of the Stone Age into a large puddle that's up to your neck. Forget Vista and move to 7 or just continue with XP.
|
Fuck Vista, Windows 7 is much better.
|
Vista? what are you? nutts?
|
yea, jump directly on Windows 7
|
I'm getting ready to build a new machine with Win 7. My Vista machine just keeps getting worse and worse. Remember Windows Millennium? Lazy Microsoft chumps.
|
Windows Server 2008 is the best choice bar none.
|
go direct to 7 or linux, vista is crap
|
Windows 7 is basically Vista without all the bugs and a few added features. As already pointed out countless times, upgrading to Vista is a bad decision.
That being said, I'm still using XP as well. No need to change what works. |
