Is there any new music that is "blowing you away" these days...or is it all just shit now??

When was the last time you have heard and album or a song that just totally blew you away?
Is there anything new out there that makes you go "WOW" or is it all just bubble gum pop rock and shitty hip hop music now?

cthulhu_waves 07-27-2010 07:35 AM

Oh God, nothing comes to mind. You may be right.

There's lots of great stuff out there, you just have to know where to look. Having Sirius or XM radio is a good start.

Go to Grooveshark or Pandora and just start a station, it'll pick stuff for you. Before you know it, you've discovered a bunch of new music. Don't rely on mainstream top 40 radio to give you anything but crap.

What kind of music do you like? Maybe I can point you in the right direction. I listen to mostly metal and indie rock.

I acuatally discovered these guys while I was in UK...they aren't too bad at all.

I guess I was just wondering if anyone has any opinions on what the new big thing is right now.
Are there any newer bands/artists that you think will be still be around in 10-15 years?

The last band I can think of that made their mark and stuck around for the long-term is the Foo Fighters.

ottopottomouse 07-27-2010 08:36 AM

Not exactly a new artist suggestion but the only thing i've heard recently (well about 9 months ago now) where I just though WOW was Alicia Keys live version of Empire State of Mind. Nothing special since.

I really liked Slash's new album.

I always liked Big Boi and Outkast. His new stuff is good too.

The Porn Nerd 07-27-2010 09:22 AM

For what it's worth - not much - I was in the music business for fifteen years, and got out around 1999 or so. I could tell, even back then, that music was going the way of Backstreet Boys and American Idol. Rock is dead (sadly), musicians today can barely play their instruemtns, and the #1 PROBLEM is that any of the great singers still left out there are either working in R&B or Pop, and those that try to "sing" in rock are, well, horrid. Can't hit a note, talk-sing more than SING, nothing distinctive.

Where are the Rod Stewarts, Robert Plants, John Lennon's, with their chill-inducing great pipes? Okay, all English. But even the American 'singers" can't hold a tune these days.

Highly sad. I blame corporate America.

TeenSluts 07-27-2010 09:55 AM

what kind of music do you like jgabra62? You like listening to the radio?

UniqueD 07-27-2010 09:57 AM

There are plenty of new and great bands out there but i think people put too much faith in local corporate radio stations to bring them good music. The only place in my city to find good music are the college and not for profit stations.
