Is the Quality Worth It?
 

I wonder how many customers out there really have the patience for HD whether a clip store or a pay site. Despite increased bandwidth speeds for home users.

Recently some of my favorite clip stores have switched to HD for their videos. My guess is they could compress them a bit more, but do not want to sacrifice the quality. Anyway, instead of the old 5-10 minutes to download a 20 minute clip at 10M. It now can take 30-45 minutes. Depending on connection.

I do not know about you, but when I am ready to rub one out. That is an excessive amount of time to be waiting with my dick in hand. I almost have to pre-plan the jerk and schedule an appointment if I want to use one of their new clips.

My :2 cents: is this....

HD is probably good for a streaming tube pay site, considering if you have a nice pipe and processor, and RAM. But not so good for the clip store impulse buy. Or those looking to pound it out quickly. They will be more likely to go to the 'ole favorites' or to use a tube site. Assuming that there is a tube providers content that 'hits da spot'.

Damn .. I am in the Internet backwater we like to call Australia with some of the worst net speeds on earth and I can download faster than that with my shitty connection.

Get better internet.

HD content sells, and it wouldn't sell if people were unable to download it within a reasonable period of time. Most paysites offer it in smaller versions too, so there really cant be any complaining. You have the choice.

You have to go with what is available for consumer at home. That is the tops for this area.

Yes. "Some" pay sites and stores offer multiple versions. So I guess the lesson for today is, more should be doing this. As I am sure there are other customers looking to make the impulse buy and not willing to wait.

I kinda assumed all paysites would be offering multiple speeds/sizes by now. Its easy to do .. and if they aren't then thats just letting down the consumer and hurting retention.

Then again you mention some aren't so obviously my assumption was way off base.

I have done extensive testing on my sites, keeping track of what they click on. In terms of downloads, they are mostly clicking on a full WMV. I stopping making clips because NOT ONE member in my 6 month testing every clicked on one. Not one!!! Hard to believe I know, but with my sites that is what's going on. I've been using HD Video content for about 14 months now. The sites with HD Video convert no better or worse and rebill no better or worse than the sites without HD Video.

CSS vs tables, HD Video, sleek tours..... all done for webmasters. Consumers could care less about any of that.

No, no, no! HD was (is) the worst thing to happen to internet porn ever. Who the hell wants to d/l a 1GB or larger file to watch a single scene? I won't do it and I know that I'm not alone. Plus you need a freakin supercomputer to even play some of these files without them being choppy and look like hell. It's porn, people, not art, stick to regular definition. No porn scene ever needs to be larger than 250MB - if you can't do it in that, get a different job.

On the tube pay sites, the majority watch the stream. Few download anymore.

I think if you can film in HD, and then compress well down into high end SD and file sizes it is a overall better experience for the end consumer. Not only for myself, but for others who are on slower connections and less patient for long downloads.

If you are horny now, who the fuck is going to wait 15/30/45 minutes for a download?
