My Netflix queue is empty.

My Netflix queue is empty. I need suggestions please. No chick flicks, no subtitles. Movies, not TV shows. TIA

CheeseHead Nacho Burger 07-24-2010 11:05 PM

Here's a suggestion: Netflix Streaming. It rocks. Just browse, find something interesting, click, watch instantly on your computer. Or, if you prefer to watch it on your tv buy the "roku" for $60 and stream it to your TV via wifi. I guarantee you'll find something worth watching just by browsing around. I've personally been doing so most of today... it just seemed like a great day to watch movies.

Oh, it's included with your netflix account, by the way...

I use it but it has limited flicks available, and does not work well when traveling.

this year a few sleepers I really enjoyed

Flash Backs Of Fool (james bond stars)
The Deal (about hollywood)
Hachi: A Dog's Tale (deserved an oscar) drama
Edge of Darkness (Mel Gibson - good political drama - sleeper)
The Box (good fantasy expected to be bubble gum but worth watching)

the the oscar noms
Precious
Crazy Heart

kane 07-25-2010 02:31 AM

I recently watched Shutter Island and really liked it. Also, Hot Tub Time Machine is very funny.

I can also recommend Crazy Heart and Up In The Air. Both good dramas and The Road if you don't mind being depressed by a movie.

If you are in the mood for a mini series I just watched Generation Kill. It is a 9 hour mini series that was on HBO. Done by the guys that did The Wire and based on a book by a Rolling Stone reporter who was embedded with a group of Marines who led the assault into Iraq. It is very good.

Agreed. Except for Jason X. Sorry Mr. Voorhees, but that sucked ass. My personal fave was Jason Goes To Hell. "Through a Voorhees was he born..."

BD, Make the significant other watch "I Spit on Your Grave." I've had mixed reactions from women on that, and I love to hear feedback on it.

The Crazies was surprisingly good. As was Book of Eli. But the best movie I has seen in a long time was She's Out of My League (very shockingly good).

Isn't an empty Netflix queue similar to reaching the end of the Internet?

Profits of Doom 07-25-2010 12:28 PM

I really enjoyed the documentary "Bigger, Stronger, Faster*", about steroid use and the misconceptions we have about their long term effects...

I watched The Crazies last night and agree it was worth the rental. The story line and action was ok but what I really appreciated was the lighting and camera work. So many movies these days are monochromatic with jerky camera work and The Crazies was done in a way that made the movie that much more enjoyable.

I also liked The Book of Eli and would watch it over The Road if I had to choose. All those that think the law needs to mind it's own business and stay out of yours and people should be able to do what they please should watch The Book of Eli and see what living in a lawless society would be like. :)

Also watched Edge of Darkness which was pretty good as someone else mentioned.

Making The Road into a movie was a fucking travesty.

Trade is definitely a great movie, someone else recommend it to you.
Repo Man 2010 it's a little slow at first but I liked it.

I liked the movie, but it is nothing compared to the book. McCarthy is a god among writers and a lot of his stuff just doesn't translate well to screen, but I thought The Road was pretty good and No Country For Old Men was done very well.

I saw that a few weeks ago, powerful film.

Couldn't say enough good things about this one...

Brooklyn's Finest was pretty good.

The Crazies was worth a watch.

Hot Tube Time Machine rocked.

Triangle(2009) -- try not to watch a trailer or find out anything about it, or you'll ruin the experience. If you like good, mind bending horror/scifi this one is great.

Sunshine -- everyone should see this
