After the recession: Sale-less recovery for porn?
I'm sure you've heard of the term JOBLESS RECOVERY (economy recovers but the jobs don't due to the structural changes brought by a recession. More details HERE), do you think a SALE-LESS recovery is also possible with online adult entertainment? How? The recession forces consumers to learn about free ways to satisfy their porn fix for free. The economy improves but consumers' tastes have changed and less go back to paying for adult entertainment.
What do you think? Also, add to the mix the consumer relations damage done by shady billing practices and other similar factors. |
this "recession" will be about a decade long. don't get too excited.

I strongly think that the average consumer still believes that price and value are connected.
I'm sure there are many gas stations whos $.50 coffee is similar if not better than a $5 Starbucks coffee but people will always connect price and value. Paid porn MUST be better than free porn! |
Online porn will recover and itll look much different than it does today in my humble opinion. Im going to be honest your pricing model is fucking insane, I mean seriously 49.99 a month for a membership? Pretty fucking sad that Farmville makes more than many of you combined.

when internet porn sales were at their highest the consumer was probably getting fucked the worst with dialers and such. i remember articles in the local news about people with 40 grand dialer bills. people are getting ass raped in ways that would make adult blush with acai and teeth whiteners right now. people are still buying teeth whiteners.
free porn people will never buy porn anyway. about a fifth of the US population is unemployed right now with plenty of time to look for free porn. if and when they go back to work they will splurge on paysites for the convenience. etc. |

Online porn will just move in the same direction as the rest of the internet. More community based, more "intelligent" (ie. surfers don't have to look -- your software already know their personality and what to serve), more interactive, etc.

'Farmville makes more than most of you combined' sums it up nicely. |

For online porn to recover it has to adapt and that's something it has not done in any great way since it started. Most porn site are still just a place to download videos. Here are a few things I think are essential for online porn to recover. 1. The customer is king. He's the only guy who puts money on the table. Without him we're fucked. 2. Sites have to be more than a place to download videos. Live action, inter action, etc. 3. Join periods. We need to offer shorter memberships. If you're selling a months recurring supply of a product to a market that can get by with a days supply you need to change. We don't because of the need to pay for traffic. 4. Content. If all your site has is the same content 1,000s of other sites and Tubes have why should the customer buy? Sticking a girl on a sofa/bed and shooting her fucking herself or someone else gets boring. The customer has a hard drive full of the same scenes. You need to offer him more. How the above is achieved is the question. |
