I need some algebra help

It's been 10 years. I need to isolate X in the following formula.

X - (X * C)

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

the answer is over 9000 :winkwink:

Is this all you need:
X(1-C)

Sly 07-17-2010 08:10 AM

I suppose it could be simplified to: X - XC

Basically it is simply a formula to calculate profit after a commission. X is sell price, C is commission rate.

Right now my full equation is the following:
X - XC = A + B + D - E + F

X is what I am trying to discover, all of the other variables I have values for. I need to know what X is. I just can't remember how to isolate X in that scenario.

Here you are: x*(1-c)

camgirlshide 07-17-2010 08:28 AM

X = (a + b + d - e + f)/(1-c)

Nice, thank you!

So divide and convert the X to 1.

Er, I see the other change. I remember doing this, just don't remember the reasons. Used to be good at this stuff.

I took Algebra way too long ago

This is correct, you first break out X and replace it by 1's were X is alone.

Since you want to isolate X you divide both sides X(1-C) = (a + b + d + e + f) and can thus cross out (1-C) on the left side which then leaves X alone. And much correctly, as already stated, on your right you get (a + b + d - e + f)/(1-C).

Not very hard, but long time ago and memory might not always serve well.
