I just now discovered that my

...concrete patio has cracked open the entire width...about 12 feet wide and about 24 feet long. There is about a half inch crack. The patio was poured about 23 years ago. Any ideas about why it decided to crack at this point in time?

Not from the undesirable...since I changed my number...but I did have a couple of calls today. One was from a friend I have known for more that fifty years.

Pathfinder was cremated and his ashes were dispersed on a hill in Korea by his oldest son...thank you very much.

Your rebar expired. You skimped, and use 23 yr rebar, should have forked out the extra few bucks for the 60 yr.

Lesson learned.

Okay I'm shitting you. Rebar has no expiration date. :D

Maybe the natural settling process that goes on with all houses took it's toll on your cement over the years and it finally decided to crack from it?

Nope...it does not have any expansion joints...and may be why it cracked. I suspect the ground it was poured on has compacted more. It really isn't a big deal...just struck me as a little odd...and peaked my curiosity.

Yes...settling...that is what I suspect as you can read from my post below yours.

A hill in Korea...where he and my father fought a battle during the Korean War that only he and my father and a handful of others survived. He lost many friends on that hill and always expressed the desire to rejoin them in death and his oldest son fulfilled his desire.

Maybe the soakaway has filled & is moving the ground underneath?

ottopottomouse 07-17-2010 02:59 AM

Poor lonely patio was probably feeling neglected while you are out fishing all the time.

Bill8 07-17-2010 04:04 AM

It was probably a change in the water table.

That kind of thing depends on the soil composition.

If it's only your place and not neighbors also, might be a change in the drainage system around your house, causing a very local water tablle change.
