Who else has business's other than this Industry?

Or are all your eggs in Porn?

Started this business in early 96' but around 1999-2000, I slowly started doing other
stuff as long as I could manage them from our main offices. Anything that had to do with actually being there, I wouldn't take up.

Since this is my pride and joy, this business always has and always will come first.

Anyone else?

sperbonzo 07-14-2010 09:49 AM

Pretty much everyone I know has at least one "mainstream" project going on...

TheDoc 07-14-2010 09:57 AM

Years back I was part owner in a drafting school, software sales company and a mainstream host. Lesson learned was, don't let other partners have control of money.

Today I have a few small things going, store products and online, some ebooks, small time local marketing stuff... Nothing that could over take over as a job, but for sure growing income streams either way.

Adult Services is without question my bread winner.

IllTestYourGirls 07-14-2010 10:00 AM

I have two offline businesses.

Business partners are like marriages, they either work or they don't. I've been fortunate. I've had the same business partner for over 20 years. But most stories I have heard about business partners is that they simply don't work.

Congrats on the other ventures though, any other income is still income. Also gives you a little mental break.

Owned commercial properties up until 2 years ago. The economy got so bad that we lost all out tenants (small business owners) as they went out of business and I lost about a half million dollars in a blood bath.

Think I'll stick to adult from now on. All that stuff outside adult only cost me money the entire time I had it. Adult just makes money with low overhead.

GrouchyAdmin 07-14-2010 10:06 AM

Most of my work is mainstream these days. If I was looking for work in this industry, we'd be sharing the same cardboard box.

CDSmith 07-14-2010 10:08 AM

I've had mainstream sites since the late 90's.

I also own rental property, since the early-to-mid 90's.

All of it still chugging along nicely.

Man that sucks, don't you get a killer write off when you can't rent them out? What if you were to rent them out for a lot less? Was it in a bad location?

It's crazy, because everyone talks about the home crises, but nobody talks about how hard the Commercial market is getting hit.

No. No. And No. lol

The properties were in the middle of a nice business district. When the economy tanked it seemed that 75% of the small business around closed up shop. :(

Shit happens. Fortunately I made enough money in adult to pay for that whole fiasco. And I learned my lesson about stretching myself too thin.

My grandfather (made millions in the citrus industry in Fla.) passed away a couple of months ago at the age of 91. And one of the pieces of advice he gave me over the years was: "If you try to do two things at once you'll only do them half as good"

He was right.

Barefootsies 07-14-2010 10:29 AM

Nope. I have business outside of adult.

Have been diversifying for 2-3 years now. Both on, and off, line.

Another good question is who had business outside of adult?

Lots of folks took their porn money and invested in all sorts of schemes, stocks, real estate and more, hoping to diversify their holdings and increase their earnings -- and have had their ass handed to them over the past two years as a result.

How many of you went to the "greener grass" of mainstream only to come back to porn?

Grampa had a great saying, I like that. So true. You always make the most money in the one you give 110% to.

You must of got some kind of write off.

Don't let that scare you, real estate is a great investment. You had a bad experience with that one, will just make you think twice about the next one. But don't give up on it.

Grass is never greener if you are making a healthy living. Everything I have done outside this industry has been a hobby to me, and I treat it as a hobby. I would never focus outside the business that has been the most successful.

I agree though, I've seen people on the boards, then they disappear, then they come back 7-10 years later to promote their old product again. This is a great business, why not just stay in it for the long run.

You would have to be a fool not to diversify, it will just get harder and harder to make a buck in this industry.. why fight an uphill battle, when there are ton of mainstream opportunities out there?

That's weird...cause I'm watching the news showing record unemployment and companies closing left and right and govt. bailouts, etc.

Where is this paradise of "mainstream" opportunities and why doesn't the stock market or the business community know anything about it? Maybe they should read GFY? Apparently the "mainstream" economy is booming!

If you don't think that there are plenty of people making plenty of money in entrepreneurial projects then you are very mistaken. Actually, in the last 6 months I have seen a huge upswing in the amount of VC and Angel investment money available, and projects getting funded left and right. Sure the big established industries are in trouble, but you come up with the right new technology opportunity right now, and there is private funding ready to throw money at it.

yes, I agree. As it seems the Economy has tanked. There are people out there making millions. We just don't see it because we are on GFY most of the day. :Oh crap

When you say "plenty" you may be right in numbers. But absolutely wrong in percentages of people. There are always a handful of folks making money on any given situation. But that has jack dick to do with the insinuation that "mainstream" is kicking ass and porn just can't keep up. I'll guarantee you I make more money even now in porn in one week than 99.9% of people in "mainstream" make in a month. The money opportunity, payouts, and recurring billing are all superior in adult to mainstream.

Unless somebody has something SPECIFIC and not all these generalized urban legend hearsay statements...then I still say that a smart motivated person will make 100 times more money in porn than in "mainstream". Especially if you are starting out with little or no startup money.

I started back in the day with zero start up money. And made millions with that non-investment. You tell me even one mainstream opportunity that could have done that for me.

IllTestYourGirls 07-14-2010 03:23 PM

In the past couple weeks I have been asked by someone in mainstream to build them an adult network and someone in adult to build them a mainstream network. Both people thinking their is more money in something they are not doing. Grass is always greener I guess.

I would think that trying to start up right now in either mainstream or adult would be a hard row to hoe.

I'm glad I'm established in what I do. And plan on riding this storm out and coming out the other side one way or another. Changing horses in midstream could be a recipe for disaster at this particular moment in time.

Well, i don't know about that. Porn is always going to be popular..it isn't a fad. People love their porn, it's just finding ways to monetize it that is becoming difficult. I'm sure the next best thing is right around the corner.

suesheboy 07-14-2010 04:13 PM

100% online but doing less adult every year and affiliate earning account for very little. The days of converting 1:32 are long over.

You must control your own destiny or the long term future is bleak.

fuzebox 07-14-2010 04:28 PM

About as mainstream as I get is trying to sell adult dating to non-adult traffic... I have some rental income from 3 properties, but I'm happy with my adult revenues for now. Maybe I'll reevaluate next year.

Dvae 07-14-2010 04:34 PM

One by one I'm letting domains expire. For the past 2 yrs have been trading the forex.

FrozenJag 07-14-2010 05:18 PM

I started fall of 06 and by fall of 07 had an opportunity to start a smallish warehousing and trucking business. My family had been in trucking the whole time I was a kid so I was familar and jumped on it with my new found porn money. So since Jan of 08 I've had an offline business that my wife and brother run. However myself personally have continued busting ass and growing my adult business. Last two years I've paid myself nothing from the offline business so it can be on steroids in a sense gaining steam and paying it's debt off asap. Mean time I brought on 2 full time adult team members and we bust out huge amounts of work and all the while the offline company is getting more and more healthy since I was able to piggy back off my adult money. Thinking in the next year after offline biz debt is all gone that the two together should be pretty damn nice.

Adult for life though. I owe ALOT to this game and it still treats me very well. One of those you get out of it what you put in sorta things. Still zero mainstream holdings at this point and although my eyes are always open, it's doubtful I'll explore MS anytime soon unless I can eventually afford to hire more team and do it up right.

edit* When I started I had 100 bucks to invest and that is ALL. What other industry can you go from poor with 100 dollar investment and get to making thousands to tens of thousands to hundreds. Im forever greatful myself. You all should be too.

In fact you have more chances of doing money betting on sports with the so called "Sure bets" (no chance to lose a single buck, than with FOREX)

FOREX is very similar to gamble, despite that some people talk about technical analysis, fundamental analysis, priceacton, etc... The fact is that 95% of people lose money on forex and this is not my stats... the stats of 95% are claimed by the very same BROKERS...

If anyone wants to diversify into mainstream, let me know. I can help you diversify for cheap and also help you avoid some common pitfalls. [email protected]

Oldy 07-15-2010 03:28 AM

I can help any of you diversify to mainstream, I am a supplier of pet turtles (azatic) , aquarium supplies, and reptile and animal feed. All sales refered have a 5% commission rate.

You can order turtles by the bulk, around $5 each and resell them for $15 online.
Aquarium supplies , around $15 for the turtle bowl, you can resell for $45.
You do have to pay shipping from my warehouse which is a flat rate of $80 per shipment.

A startup wholesaller package is $895, includes:
70 turtles
10 Circular bowls
20 bags of turtle feed.

Shipment is $80, total = $985

any requests pm me.
