Maintenance window for hosting companies?
 

i'm really mystified by this - my sites are down since about 10-11pm - not a surprise since the hosting company did send out a notification. but why would any hosting company choose to do maintenance between 10-11PM Eastern time to 4AM - which is prime time for sales. the maintenance window should be after 4 AM in the East until mid morning - not many sales come in during that time frame.

5 hours downtime is unacceptable for any reason regardless of time. change hosts.

That window favors their employee's hours. Might be a good thing since you don't really want burned out guys fucking up if it is "too late".

Find a better host, this one sucks badly.
No host should make a site go down longer then a few minutes unless there was an earthquake. I would move today.

well i planned to work on that server overnight but i have other sites on other hosts so i have used the downtime to work on them.

Thread is useless if you don't post the host.

I don't care who it is, ditch them. They clearly do not value your business.

time to move to a new host... I'd tell you to go with Host Head... but that is just me...

go with webair.

Typically they are done from like 1 am until 3 am something like that.

there is no maintenance that should take more then 2 hours.

and when i say 2 hours i mean some major shit being upgraded / replaced.

after you switch post back which host this is so I can avoid the same issue thats just not right

There's a difference between 'maintenance' and 'downtime'...

Our server is usually down for half hour maximum when maintenaince is going on & usually they ask when is appropriate.


I suggest you look elsewhere :2 cents:
