Soprano Fans - HBO finally gave us a decent replacement - maybe

What do you think? The writer from Sopranos, Martin Scorcese directing and Steve Buscemi as the lead sounds pretty damn promising.

beerptrol 07-09-2010 08:11 PM

It looks good. The gf and I plan on watching it Always been a fan of steve buscemi

CamTraffic 07-09-2010 08:15 PM

loved the Sopranos, big fan of scorcese, however i can't just see Steve Buscemi in that role...
cant wait...

sicone 07-09-2010 08:33 PM

Looks like it has the potential to be a great series

Nicky 07-09-2010 08:41 PM

Can be good. Nothing can come close to Gandolfini though....

Sly 07-09-2010 08:42 PM

I think the name is kind of cheesy and Steve in a power role is kind of odd... with that said, I am looking forward to it. It has some potential for sure.

cykoe6 07-09-2010 09:41 PM

Looks pretty cool.

NaughtyRob 07-09-2010 10:10 PM

No Sopranos but it looks good I'll watch.

SallyRand 07-09-2010 10:22 PM

The pathetic ending of the "Sopranos" series pissed me off so much that I won't even watch the reruns. HBO gots a long wayz to go in my book!

mgtarheels 07-09-2010 10:32 PM

When is it supposed to air?

HBO has really been fucking up. I don't know the actual ratings #s but for series it seems like Showtime is kicking HBO's ass.

I don't follow True Blood so I don't think I really watch any series that are on HBO curently. For the most part they dropped the ball. They had Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Oz, etc. Seemed like they were really innovating, but they never really replaced many of the titans they lost / retired.

Hope this new show gets them back on track. Fingers crossed they try to innovate with this series and not duplicate. Scorcese brings hope, but the trailer doesn't really excite me. Makes me feel like someone took Sopranos and Deadwood and put it in a blender.

Agree. Dexter, weeds, californication are done well.

crockett 07-10-2010 09:12 AM

Looks like a awesome role for Steve Buscemi as it seems he fits it well, and it will be nice to see him as a lead for once and not a side kick.. He's always one of those actors that has to have the right roll or he comes off a bit wrong.

As for the series it looks good but I'm betting if past experience with HBO is any clue that they won't run it long.

They canceled Deadwood due to the costs of production and that series was awesome. Same thing happened with Carnivale as they cut it due production due to costs.

This show due to it's era and needed backdrop will likely also be very expensive to produce. Lets hope they turn it into something though because it looks good.

Lightning 07-10-2010 11:12 AM

Hummm looks like it may just be a good one..:thumbsup

One word.... Treme! I was a huge Six Feet Under and Sopranos fan. Treme finally gets them back up to that level.

I love Steve Buscemi and will definitely be checking this out!

Semi-Retired-Dave 07-10-2010 01:22 PM

Looks good.

Dcat 07-10-2010 01:25 PM

This could certainly have legs. Looks awesome! :thumbsup

Agent 488 07-10-2010 01:28 PM

looks lame.

yeah gay aids looking crackhead crime boss scary.

kane 07-10-2010 01:31 PM

I'm looking forward to it.

And for those who think HBO is getting its ass kicked by Showtime. True Blood has more viewers than Dexter, Californication and Weeds combined.

Although I personally like Dexter and Californication better than True Blood.

you should see him as a hired killer in "Things To Do in Denver When You're Dead."
he plays evil and deadly very well.

HandballJim 07-10-2010 01:45 PM

the only thing close to Soprano's in my opinion that I found is "Sons of Anarchy" on FX, the characters are pretty strong. :2 cents:

CurrentlySober 07-10-2010 02:16 PM

Looking forward to seeing that. Looks quite cool.

Zuzana Designs 07-10-2010 02:21 PM

Yeah, exactly what i was thinking. I always see Buscemi as Mr.Pink and not some mob type character.

A man doesn't need to be 6'11 275 pounds with washboard abs to run a crime family. You need a brain and a spine. Meyer Lansky was a short Jewish man from the Lower East Side of NYC. At one point he ran the entire island of Cuba, a good part of New York City and had a say in pretty much everything that happened in the United States crime world. He was 4' 11 3/4. He was a lot smaller than Buscemi... and nobody felt the urge to disrespect him. :2 cents:

Yep. Sure. While this may be true it doesn't make for good cinematography.

CDSmith 07-10-2010 02:35 PM

I'll give it a go. Looks to be worth watching, that's all that matters to me.

HBO, showtime, I really don't care who's better. I like Californication, Entourage, Hung, True Blood, Spartacus, several others too. Movie Central runs them all here so I don't really pay much attention to which company created them.

That depends how well it is done. Joe Pesci is not exactly gigantic and he seems to do pretty well in movies like Casino and Goodfellas. I have not seen this series yet... but the idea that a crime boss has to be built like Brock Lesnar is ridiculous. :2 cents:

icymelon 07-10-2010 02:42 PM

how can it not be good? as good as sopranos? probably not

Ayla_SquareTurtle 07-10-2010 03:04 PM

James Gandolfini is a big doughy guy who would get winded walking to the corner store. If he can be a mob boss, Steve Buscemi can be a corrupt politician/gangster.

IllTestYourGirls 07-10-2010 03:11 PM

Ill be DVRing it for sure

bronco67 07-10-2010 03:40 PM

If by "decent", you mean another slow, drawn out episodic cable TV show with meadering plot lines and 5 episode stretches of nothing happening and gets jizzed on by every critic in spooge covered accolades and undeserved Emmy nominations, and ends with a big "fuck you" to the devoted audience then yes, it'll probably be decent.

I'll watch Breaking Bad instead.

HomerSimpson 07-10-2010 05:08 PM

will watch this but nothing compares with Sopranos and Gandolfini...
also Steve Buscemi is probably not the best actor for that type of role...

WebairGerard 07-11-2010 09:40 AM

like that its set back in the 20s. will check it out. Sopranos was great but the last few seasons dragged and the ending was a downer.

miss_bellabellini 07-11-2010 11:31 AM

This looks really good! I'm excited:) And I think AMC is beating HBO & Showtime with Breaking Bad alone. God, I love that show.

AmeliaG 07-11-2010 11:56 AM

Every time they show a promo for that, I'm like fuck I want to watch that show, instead of what I'm watching. It looks like just my kinda thing.

FeelMyTube 07-11-2010 12:06 PM

looks awesome
