UFC 116 - So Far So Good

Some really good fights on the undercard....
Bonnar and Leben both really impressive :thumbsup

NickB. 07-03-2010 08:50 PM

yeah respect for leben man, damn... submitted him, waited with the kill to throw some punches, than choked him out...

WOW!

SBJ 07-03-2010 09:03 PM

I never really got into UFC.. I would watch it if it was on at the bar but that's about it.. Funny thing is a bar I live a block or so away from bought this event tonight and they never buy events.. not sure if I should drag my ass over and watch it.. How much longer is it on?

Relentless 07-03-2010 09:05 PM

Main event is on now....
Card was worth the ppv price no matter how the main event turns out.

EliteWebmaster 07-03-2010 09:06 PM

Go Brock Lesnar :)

NickB. 07-03-2010 09:13 PM

Lesnar getting slapped like a little girl

barely made it through round 1

Relentless 07-03-2010 09:19 PM

One of the few recent fights that I'd pay to see a rematch of.... :2 cents:

Mr. E 07-03-2010 09:25 PM

Damn, Brock came back and finished Carwin off with a choke after that beating. Crazy

EliteWebmaster 07-03-2010 09:26 PM

Fear Lesnar :)

BittieBucks 07-03-2010 09:31 PM

LOL @ Nick

Nice call Nick... Yes Lesnar was holding on in Round 1, but the other guy was dead on his feet at the start of Round 2, punched himself out... and that was all she wrote !

Why do so many people hate Brock... ok I kinda know the answer to that, but fair play to him, he's a monster and he knows it !

Relentless 07-03-2010 09:32 PM

I hated Lesnar before that fight... now I only really dislike him... which is a big improvement for him. A few more performances like that and I may grow to just not be a fan of his...

At least he showed some class after the fight was over unlike his previous antics. Maybe he is learning...

JustDaveXxx 07-03-2010 10:20 PM

One of the very best cards in a long time. Every fight was really good. Well worth the pay per view. Brock seriously stepped up. Took his beating then delivered his own.

I actually stopped watching UFC after Lesnar's stupid fucking rant back in UFC 100.

Guys that Lesnar/Carwin fight was incredible seeing it live at the MGM.

I really though Lesnar was finished in that first round. I was surprised the ref didn't stop the fight.

My feeling watching the fight was that Lesnar had some mental issues. First off, he almost died last year. Then as I understand it...his kidneys were so damaged from that, that he can no longer eat meat the way he used to for protein.

From what I had read he had to change his entire diet and protein intake away from eating meat AND he had to regain his weight and strength at the same time.

That's a pretty tall order. And I think when he walked in the cage he had some self-doubt. And I think he tried to overcome that self doubt by trying to go toe to toe punching with Carwin to overcompensate.

And that's when he took an ass whipping.

Seeing it happen in person was brutal. Lesnar's face was messed up bad and there was blood everywhere. I honestly thought the ref was going to stop it at any second.

I kept thinking to myself...why the hell isn't Lesnar wrestling? I mean, that's what he's really good at.

And in the second round that's what he finally did. He shot in, took a tired Carwin down and that was all she wrote.

It was a tremendous fight. And Carwin was really blown up in that second round. Hell, he's never been past the first round before. And I don't think he's ever even been taken down before.

So when Lesnar did that...it was all over.

CYF 07-04-2010 12:54 AM

I caught it on ppv tonight too. I thought UFC 116 was fucking awesome, some great matches tonight.

Deej 07-04-2010 01:05 AM

Fuck yea! Thats the first time lesnar has actually impressed me with skill and heart.

I really thought he was done in the first!

Fucking arm triangle. Right from a mount, just seen it and took it.

Craaaaaazy!

+1 Lesnar!

So on point.

But what you probably did not see because you were there live was that Brock did a pretty good job of defending himself while he was taking an ass Whipping. For the ref to stop it, a fighter needs to be clearly be out of it or if he gets hit 9 times in a row to the head and makes no attempt at defending himself during those 9 shots in a row, the ref will break it up. Brock got clocked 4 times in a row, blocked 3, got clocked 5, blocked 5 and so on. Very close, but he was not seriously hurt bad enough to not defend himself.

The ref was so on point tonight. He could have fucked up the whole thing by stopping it. The ref deserves kudos for doing his job right.:thumbsup

Gambrinus 07-04-2010 01:25 AM

Holy fucking shit, great fight. Fucking Carwin gassed. Glad I didn't put money on this fight.

That about sums it up.

Good for Brock though, he earned that one.

I wasnt paying too much attention to the ref, but was it rosenthal?

Not sure if it was or not, just remember a round set bald dude. I feel hes coming up as a new Herb Dean. Good on all points.

Except for many of the other MMA fighters in the world. :2 cents:

their level is far from Fedor

gsp is the best mma guy in the world imho. anyway, Brock did a great job, i too sort of thought they might call it in round 1, but Carwin got gassed, Brock got him down, and that was that.

So, who's next?

Who else is in the heavyweight division that can pose as much of a threat to Lesnar as Carwin did? I don't see Lesnar going anywhere anytime soon.

At least Lesnar picked up some fans. He was far more humble than he has ever been. The crowd wasn't booing at him for a change.

Based on track record I'd definitely agree about GSP.
The guys he has beaten etc are unmatched.
Also he behaves like a champion which counts for something as well.

As for pure talent John 'Bones' Jones is on his way up. He has obliterated a few pretty good fighters including Brandon Vera and Stephan Bonnar His only 'loss' was in the Matt Hamill fight for an illegal strike and he was destroying Hamill prior to that. Wouldn't shock me at all if he is the next huge star. :2 cents:

Nobody can boo someone who takes a beating the way Brock did from Carwin and come back and win. Like him or hate him, you got to respect him for that.

Everyone in the world thought Brock was done, except Brock. Then come back with a submission?? Mad props for that.:2 cents:

Lesnar went up slightly a notch in my book. He showed that he knows at least basic submissions now and has a little bit of heart as well. He seemed to be missing both before. Still the submission was against a very gassed opponent and in the first round he barely survived being used as a punching bag.

Yep, it was rosenthal. I really think hes a good ref. They should eliminate mazzagati and lavigne right away.

Leben impressed me. So did akiyama though. Only one person has hurt and dazed leben like that. Look where that fucker is now.

Leben challenging Silva though... Id like to see that. Silva is past his time i feel, but still a force to be reckoned with when dealing with Leben. Though ... as Leben gets better and silva gets older, might match up nicely.

fuzebox 07-04-2010 02:59 PM

Great card, lots of fun to watch... I'm a little disappointed in Carwin though, I thought he had what it took... Watching Brock get grounded and pounded was the most fun I've had watching UFC in a long time.
