Facebook facing huge class action lawsuit in Canada

http://www.torontosun.com/news/canad.../14593546.html

A Canadian law firm launched a class-action lawsuit against Facebook Friday afternoon, alleging the social networking giant was profiting from people's personal information.

Merchant was referring to a series of 2009 changes to Facebook's privacy policy that automatically set a variety of information ? such as names, friends lists and profile pictures ? to public as the default setting.

That meant information that may have once been visible only to friends and family became public, unless a user went into their settings and specifically marked it as private.

Those settings have been criticized for being difficult to find and comprehend.

As well, Facebook makes public information available to third-party clients, who then use it for targeted advertising.

Merchant said users were not made aware of these changes, and as a result, Facebook is making money off people's private data. Those people deserve a piece of that profit, he argued.

I watch videos on other web sites and on the page is a facebook app that shows
"These people liked this video". It shows names and faces of about 9 facebook users.

That's what I call "Whoring out your users".

Idiotic. Close your account if you don't like it.

I also heard that there is little privacy on any information put on the Internet, not just Facebook.

Some profile on facebook not 100% true some are dummy or there just create an account to take advantage...:( or else do not put your information all....

Facebook is for morons, similar to those that flex naked in front of the mirror snapping pics of themselves :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Isn't privacy legislated more heavily in Canada than many other similar countries? Why is a law firm taking action rather than the government? (Rhetorical question of course, "class action" = lots of "action" for the firm)

you can't get big without facing some of this

Some people are too stupid to be allowed to use the internet. Facebook seems to be a magnet for them.
