Off to Catalina Island for a Long Weekend ...

Anyone ever been? I haven't been able to find anyone who has been there.

If you have, any must do restaurants or activities?

~Ray 07-02-2010 08:42 AM

Kristin, The Island is pretty small and I know there was a fire there either yesterday or the day before. Just going by what I read in the LA Times. Might want to call there and make sure things are cool.

Have fun.

Yeah, it was caused by a plane crash. Glad I'm taking the boat over. :)

Not a lot to do there... exploring the island is the most fun. Man it's been like 13 years since i've been there.

I lived on Catalia for almost 3 years a loong time ago. I would definitely suggest taking one of the snorkel tours and maybe renting a kayak for a couple of hours. The island tour where they take you by the Wrigley Horse Ranch and to the airport is pretty cool. You are sure to see some buffalo and the views are awesome.

You can also head to the other end of the island and visit Two Harbors. Its much more rustic and quiet. You can do some great snorkelling, diving, kayaking and hiking without dealing will all the crowds that will be in Avalon.

Or.. You can just hang out in the bar drinking Buffalo Milks all day.

Whichever route you take Im sure you will have a great time!

Good to know. Normally I'm not a tour type person. Chris and I like to emerge into the local atmosphere, no chain restaurants or shit like that. We always make sure to eat at the local pizza shop too wherever we vacation.

Will definitely do some snorkeling, thanks for the tips on the good spots.

They recently opened a ziplining thing that we are gonna do, I love ziplining. And then massages and parasailing.

The Pizza place right on the water in Avalon is pretty damn good. Its a peanut shell on the floor type of joint. The bars where the locals hang out are mostly on side streets just up from the main street. Check out the Whaler if you want to see the locals get shit faced.

Go to Descanso Beach if you want to relax in the sun. They have beach chair cocktail and food service and the beach is much bigger/nicer than the little bit of sand by the pier.

Have a great time - let me know how your trip goes. I took the family out there 2 years ago and had a blast!

Catalina is awesome, haven't been there in years but it is a great place to spend a few days.

I can't remember the name of one of the restaurants there on the water, but they served up Bison and Emu burgers, etc. there. It was really good.

Good to know, thanks Steve.

It's suppose to be quite busy during the 4th of July and a fun time to go, so I'm hoping to relax and enjoy. :)

Have fun!

rent a golf cart and go touring around. Para-sailing is also pretty cool over there
