Opps wonder how true this is

Word from Blizz folks is that they're having major account issues at the moment (thousands of accounts have been stolen, they're not sure how yet).

They've shutdown the billing/support lines and are telling users to call back later. Some of the largest guilds have reported approx. 75% of their accounts inaccessible today, and unauthorized Blizzard Authenticators have been thrown onto their accounts. Multiple accounts are being logged into by a group of perpetrators, and items sold/accounts deleted/etc.

Blizzard has been working to remedy the situation, but they haven't made any official announcements about it yet.

They started to roll out their Real ID thing and they want people to take it up. We tried it out last night and after seeing it it is clear that Blizzard is building their own social network. With the ability to talk between games with people on your list is could actually be huge for them.

If you read the thousands of comments on that page it says the story isn't even true ...

some are saying it has hapened some are saying there is no source ..who knows

I guess if it has happened Blizzard would try and keep it hush hush anyway

Wow is a gold mine. I'm not surprised this happened at all. Given the amount of economic activity in that game (translated to real money), I AM suprised that their account security and accounting security is not as tight as a real financial institution.

Both my boys have had accounts hacked into and they're characters literally raped of equipment, gold, and even their clothing (lol). Blizzard has been good about restoring their accounts fairly quickly. Both of them now have authenticators which I guess is what you're referring to as the Real ID thing. They have to punch this little thing the size of a flash drive and get a 6 digit code to log on.

It's the end of the World ... of Warcraft.

Starcraft II game is coming out in July 2010 by Blizzard company.

It is all part of that. My husband had his account hacked a few months back and was able to get it back and then got one of those things. The Real Id thing you can have without the fob and is an ident you will take with you through any of their games.

Interesting because I got a phishing email from their billing dept today. I didn't even open it. It was sent to an old email address I had on file with them. I guess I better see if I am locked out. If so, I'm canceling that crap.

I have been hearing that even with those id things people are still getting their accounts hacked with key loggers and If the data base on thier servers have been compromised those things are useless TBH

My buddy had his account hacked in this mess. The people got in and drained our guild bank and I would assume all of his gold and gear (he still can't log in) he and my other friends who had a ton of nice gems in the guild bank are both nerd raging hardcore over this.

Seriously who cares about a carebear game like that?
