RapidShare changing their account structures
 

Have any of you Rapidshare members gotten this email about the account type changes? Starting soon, everything will be done using "Rapids" (whatever the hell that is) and apparently I can no longer just pay for a month's worth of stealing, err, non-copywritten material downloading. I read over the thing but could not understand it at all. I suppose I will find out how the changes affect me when I can no longer download the stuff I want to. I believe they are doing this to try and blunt the charges that they promote copyright infringement and give creedence that their service is just another form of "cloud computing". Or, as guidongallery would say, time-shifting. From now on, thanks to Robbie's videos, I'll always hear that username pronounced as "giddyon-gallery".

They dropped their rewards program recently, maybe that has something to do with those "rapids" wharever that means:

can't remember what the daily added allowance is at the moment but looks like a way to fuck people and make them pay more

I think most file sharers are using DepositFiles or Megaupload now. Sharing Matrix is also another big one you see on most message boards.

One thing's for sure: They can't do math. Their deal for 5,000 rapids is better than their deal for 20,000 rapids. :helpme

They're doing what a lot of other sites do - get people to prepay for "tokens", hoping many of them neglect to use the tokens and if they should have to close down, they'll probably try to keep people's money spent on the "tokens" they still have left.

How did you work that out?

5.000 Rapids ? 49,75
20.000 Rapids ? 199,00

Both prices are the same. Or are you saying there is no point to buy 20K at the same price as 4x5K?
