I'm getting a Tattoo next weekend and wanted to know....

I've heard it hurts more/less depending where it is. I am getting one to cover up a horrible scar on my wrist from an accident on my friends boat.

The TOP of my wrist, so it will start about 1/2 inch on the top of my hand below the thumb, extend to the wrist and up about 4 inches, approximately 6 below the elbow.... so is this a more painful area?

If anyone is curious.... I'm getting Japanese Cherry Blossoms, a very delicate/detailed design with depth, not a ''cartoony'' design.

AND IF YA have ANY ADVICE NOW... please tell me.:helpme

on the inner side of your arm will hurt more
the places where there's less skin/muscle/fat (where the bone is really close to the skin itself) will hurt a bit too

Spunky 06-25-2010 09:51 PM

That's going to sting..a few shots or a speedball will comfort the pain

BigDeanEvans 06-25-2010 10:02 PM

Dont do it you'll regret it.

The scar I'm covering up is far worse than even a botched tattoo could look. Trust me. I'll dig out my cam tomorrow and upload a pic and you'll see why. Its part burn, part laceration that did not heal well.

bloggerz 06-25-2010 10:04 PM

dont drink the night before or you'll bleed a lot more

ps: liquor that is

Juicy D. Links 06-25-2010 10:05 PM

it hurts for first few minutes then you get a nice buzz from it....

I aint gonna lie some parts of the body hurt initially

MetaMan 06-25-2010 10:06 PM

save the money, spend it on a shrink for yourself instead.

Ahaha, that must be why he said not to take any aspirin or blood thinners the week before or he wouldn't do it and I am on an aspirin regime [1 baby aspirin per day] so I temporarily cut that out. I never realized it could cause that much bleeding.

trevesty 06-25-2010 11:22 PM

Don't drink alcohol... and one aspirin shouldn't hurt unless your blood is crazy thin already.

And... I don't know your pain tolerance, but that area didn't hurt on me at all.

John-ACWM 06-26-2010 07:01 AM

Just curious about the result. Good luck!

make sure you eat and then pop a few Advil (ibuprofen) up to 800 mg 'bout an hour before you go. it's been years since I got my wrist tattooed so I don't remember how that particular area feels. tha hand has spots that hurt and some that don't... didn't feel much in the center of my hand however the more the needle moved to the edges the more I felt it.

Vendzilla 06-26-2010 09:52 AM

look for a shop that has the new pneumatic tattoo gun, they hurt far less and heal faster when they use oxygen, don't let them wrap your tat in plastic either

M0nk 06-26-2010 09:52 AM

No pain, no gain...

scuba steve 06-26-2010 10:15 AM

scar or not, tattoos on girls=not a fan of :(

punkpred 06-26-2010 10:34 AM

Ink on the ribbs is what hurts most

partially true.

the plastic helps better in some areas and not so much in others... and helps others.. and not so much on others.

i don't heal with plastic or lotion at all and all of mine look fine. but i have pretty good skin. a ginger should use plastic(assuming they have bad skin).

eat yes... advil.. not so much. won't help with the pain and will only make her bleed more which could result in a worse tattoo if the artist can't work around it.

Semi-Retired-Dave 06-26-2010 02:39 PM

I'm not into Tattoos but if you are covering a scar, I'm all for it.
Good luck on the pain meter.

Jon Oso 06-26-2010 03:00 PM

It's not going to hurt that bad. My arm didn't start hurting until it got up to the inside of my elbow.

scarlettcontent 06-26-2010 03:12 PM

Tattoos hurt anywhere on the body, some places maybe hurt a bit more than others but everyone is different. the first few mins tend hurts more then its sort of a buzz, after a while you may start shaking a bit, you could smoke a joint before hand, it will ease the pain. I had my first tattoo age 10, as kids we would tattoo each other smiley face and crosses on our knees and wrists with a needle wrapped in cotton, a bottle of any old ink would do the trick. OMG that was in the days of lead ink, im still alive to tell the tale :thumbsup

oh yes it takes a long time with one needle and you gotta be very brave, it was all the rage when I was a kid, a kind of test of bravery :winkwink:

Litzer 06-26-2010 05:44 PM

Don't be a pussy. Tattoos do hurt, a needle is being jabbed into your skin 80-150 times a second. BUT, if it hurt THAT bad would millions of people get multiple tattoos?

It will be a breeze . I have tattoos on my rib cage , the back of my knees , the inside parts of my biceps , my legs.

Good luck , be prepared to want more after the first.

I beg to differ--three shots of grappa and you won't feel a thing.

Whats wrong with scars, especially when they are from accidents?

Stay with your scars & appreciate your body :2 cents:

american pervert 06-26-2010 08:20 PM

taking stuff for the pain is a pussy move. part of getting a tattoo is the pain, you need to earn it.

drinking is just an old wives tale. you can drink and get tattooed at the same time.

it hurts more near the elbow.

best thing for the pain is to watch tv or read a magazine to get your mind off it.

I will ask him about that. For the lady that asked how it turned out, when I had posted this thread, it was Saturday morning [my time] so next weekend.. means the one coming up. I have a week to learn more to scare me. lol

I know it's going to hurt, any of you that know me, know I am very bony, especially my ankles and wrists. On the upside though, I have nerve damage on the right side of my upper body so I don't quite feel as much pain on that side, but there is plenty of sensation left to make me squeel like a baby.

I am prescribed PK's for my shoulder/back when my scapula gets 'dislodged'.. I wonder if popping one of those before hand would help? [no blood thinners or APAP added to it]

I have plenty of scars, I would embrace it if it wasn't so horrible looking. I have always loved Cherry Blossoms, so what is the worse thing that could happen? I don't fall totally in love with that art... nothing could be worse than the franken-scar.

I just instantly knew what image I wanted a tat of, there was no thought process involved, did you guys think about it and bounce different ideas around or did you gravitate towards one specific thing like I did?

Lastly.... if you google cherry blossom tattoos you will find a bunch of torso tats, I'm getting one that is about 1/20th the size similar to the delicate one with the lady that had her pants turned down wearing white lace panties... again, mine is going to be so tiny compared to hers. My wrist is only 7 inches in diameter, so downscaling is an understatement.

all of your comments are welcomed, thank you. My first one, I am obviously nervous about it.

As for the one that told me to spend the money on therapy, I did, my shrink is Japanese, he loved the idea of the cherry blossom.

OH AND NOT SURE IF THIS MATTERS- before I made the decision to go ahead and do it, I ordered these cheap, ugly fake tattoos and wore them around for a few months to get used to having something right there, in my face 24/7 and I didn't mind it at all, I kind of liked it.
