Have you ever been hit in the face with a ball? (Video+Pics)
 

TA and I were invited to hang out on the 'party deck' of a local baseball stadium recently. I was standing there when all of a sudden there was a loud crack right by head and everyone was staring in my direction. I saw a baseball rolling on the ground not too far away with a couple people scrambling for it. I should have been grabbing for it but it happened so fast I didn't realize what was going on before it was scooped up.

It turns out that the ball had hit a beam that I was standing right next to. The point of impact was about two feet away from my head. I was thinking about how lucky I was to not get nailed in the face by the runaway baseball, when I looked over and saw some commotion and a woman being attended to by some people. It turns out that the fly ball had hit this woman directly in the face and then the ball ricocheted and hit the beam that I was standing near. The baseball had hit near me with such force I cannot imagine how that woman felt.

Never the ball but I have taken a bat to the eye. I was standing inside the cage waiting for my turn (stupid) and the person at bat threw the bat backwards after he got a hit... right in my eye. :(

Hhah first baseball game I ever went to as a kid (Red Sox game) I was hit in the elbow by a ball... (I was trying to show my dad a bruise I had on my elbow)... I think I was like 5 or 6 and it hurt like hell... At the time I tried to throw it back into the game because I thought they needed it back, hahaha. Everyone around me thought I was mad at the ball. They were kind enough to send it back to me though after it was collected again. Still have the ball!

It's amazing to me how resilient the human body is sometimes. Oh yeah, we work in porn. HA HA HA! We see it EVERYDAY!

I was an all state third baseman. Got hit in the face with a pitch once but never off a bat.

Got to fingers broken when I was pitching and the ball hit me straight on the knuckles on a liner... happened so fast but I was told people in the stand heard the crack sound it made.

That was the end of my pitching season ;(

I used to dread PE, no matter what sport we were doing, if it involved a ball, it was going to smash me in the face.

I played baseball in grade school and got hit in the leg and arm, but never the face.

I did get hit in the mouth with a racquetball once. We were playing doubles and I spun around to see who was going to hit the ball. The guy on the other team blasted a shot and just as I spun around it hit me square in the mouth. Oddly enough it didn't hurt as bad as you might think, but my lips and mouth swelled up to about twice their size for the rest of the day.

Took a high, fast hit with a baseball to the eye after slipping in some mud and losing it in the sun in left field.

Blew out the floor of my eye socket and could feel my eyeball rubbing against it every time I looked at something.

NEVER felt pain like that before and that was over an extended period while it healed.

Damn! Did you have to have surgery to fix it?

I would have had to have surgery if the muscle below the eyeball had gotten caught in the section that had to close up, so the docs closely monitored the healing process over time.

Luckily everything went well. Vision in my left eye is reduced a bit though.

My (college) baseball career was effectively ended.

That sucks. Were you on scholarship? Do you think you might have had a future playing baseball after college?

Likely, but I already had solid academics behind me. Didn't have to rely on baseball to make it or I would've been screwed.

Had one land in my nacho and cheese in my lap while watching (wasn't watching at that very moment) the Braves practice in W.P.B. as a teen.

I was pitching once and took a line to the knee, ages ago. I remember the stitches of the ball were actually printed on my knee hehe...

And once I was a goalie in a football match and took a shot to the face while practicing because I was distracted. I think it's the only time I've actually blacked out for a few seconds to wake up not knowing what happened.
