I would guess about 90% or more of the people who have smartphones of any kind don't NEED them or even use most of their features. They just want them because they are a status symbol.

Can't you buy them from Apple? I just looked on their site and it looks like the 16gb phone is $199 with a 2 year contract and $599 without.
