What he said - And it also depends on your definition of what a 'webmaster' is...

ie You build your own sites (or pay to have them built) but just work with other peoples content to try and make sales as an affiliate...

Or, you build your own sites (or pay to have them built), and create (or buy) your own content, have your own billing, and make money ff your own stuff, just for yourself.

ThumbLord 06-24-2010 10:44 AM

15 to 20 I guess, could be 25 tops

Im reminded of Stephen Kings quote on being a writer and being talented:

Quote:

"If you wrote something for which someone sent you a check, if you cashed the check and it didn't bounce, and if you then paid the light bill with the money, I consider you talented."
heheh, id say if you have sites that actually pay your bills then you are a webmaster, regardless of whether you design them yourself... or pay to have them built. :winkwink:

Yes, but wouldn't the person who did the above WITH OTHER PEOPLES content (As an affiliate) be an affiliate webmaster?

I would say affiliates are webmasters too, a webmaster by definition if a person who maintains web sites. Where they get the content, one would assume, doesnt matter if they shoot it themself or purchase it or use affiliate content.

A pornographer is a person who shoots the content, a webmaster is a site admin. Most webmasters are indeed, not pornographers.

Actually mate, when you put it like that, I have to agree with yah.

I guess I still think of the old days where a lot of people were one man bands.

Well, I am still in there so it's nice to see I have a few WM friends left.

I still run my own network of pay and traffic sites, produce my own content, promote my clip stores, as well as run a fast growing web hosting company, do consulting and development gigs, market and referral business with my message board time, among other stuff online.

In this economy, it's best to have your finger in a lot of pies.
:2 cents:

scarlettcontent 06-24-2010 11:24 AM

Been a full time affiliate since 05. Congratulations on the move. :thumbsup

Tjeezers 06-24-2010 02:26 PM

1 here, congratulations on reaching your goal.
Being a in-depended webmasters and controlling your own life is a unique phase in this life. I reached that point somewhere in 2004.

I was very pleased to find out stability is one of the things I aimed for, life time revenue sponsors that is.

Again congratulations, and good luck, I think you will still hit some bumps, but as long you accept you learn every day something new, this job is not so different than any other job. The few good things of not having to slave for a boss, and make out your own hours is great, but more nice things will come your way.

A few advices, sit on your sponsors, keep your eye on them. Never stop working, do not assume your done now. Be communicative with new webmasters, and select a few you want to go along with for the future. It is always nice to talk in freedom with a few webmasters who are in the same position.

Ohhh and trust no one but yourself.

WiredGuy 06-24-2010 02:59 PM

The real ones have become lurkers :)
