They had a poor showing at the world cup no doubt. Bad choices by Lippi (leaving home talented players such as Cassano and Balotelli), insistance on horrendous players such as Iaquinta and Gilardino, and lack of creativity due to the unfortunate injusry of their best player Pirlo (who IMHO was the MVP of 2006)

Far too many wrong selections in that Italian team. Players who should have been there (Rossi, Balotelli etc) were left behind, while others like Gatusso and Gilardinhio were used.


In saying that though, they should still never finish behind New Zealand at the group stage, no matter what players they take...
