What to do when you catch your 14 year old son smoking?
Lots of parents on here, curious to hear of what some of you have done if you've caught them smoking.
My dad suggests putting him in a closet and making him smoke 5 packs in a row. Make him sick. Others? |
Give him a beer to go with the smoke

Ignore it unless he was smoking a cock.
|
Wait till you find out your son is secretly a high speed racing motorcycle stunt rider. Smoking will seem insignificant then.
|
You caught him smoking a cigarette not a sausage so already things aren't that bad. If he's being a man about getting caught make sure you act like a man also, forget that closet shit.
. |
buy a few packs and make him chain smoke until they are gone or he pukes

You must be a life long smoker. |
Beat his ass with a belt

my mom made me eat the tobacco from a cigarette when she caught me smoking once. I have been smoking for 18 years now. Don't really see how she thought making me eat the tobacco would prevent me from smoking.
Not sure making your kid smoke till he pukes is the wisest choice. Talk to him, educate him and hope he doesn't start smoking is all you can really do. Good luck and i hope he chooses not to take up the habit! |

Yea id make him smoke until he cries, then afterwards tell him that its his life and that he can smoke as much as he wants. Next time he smokes I think the smell alone will make him sick. :thumbsup
|
At 1:00 in! :thumbsup
|
there is basically nothing you can do. you can 'punish' him in whatever way but if he wants to do it, hes going to do it.
|
are you a smoker yourself?
|
everytime he smokes kick him in the balls.
|
Its too late not much you can do now

good luck, there's still a chance to get him off the habit. He's most likely smoking out of peer pressure. Be a friend and be a stronger influence.
Good luck to you. Smoking is not cool. |
He smokes because his life is stressed out... bullshit at school does that to kids, toss in some parent b.s. and you have stress. Sit out back, have a smoke and share a beer with him and ask wtf is bothering him so much that he has to smoke...
|
Obviously it's the cool thing to do when you are 14. Have your wife talk to him and have her cry. No one wants to make their mom cry.

Do what your dad said. He'll then get nauseous at the smell of smoke. Gotta be better than cancer 20 or 30 years from now.

I'm fishing for other ideas because believe it or not there are some intelligent people here. Not all of you are worthless trolls. |
My husband wishes he never started smoking. He has been trying to quit for months with little success.
|
first and foremost, educate. Even thought he likely has already heard it all in school....detail out the health issues, the costs, etc ( can't believe how much a 2 pack a day habit must cost these days).
I've never been a smoker. My brother did when he was a kid...my parents forbade it from their premises. They found a pack in a jacket a few weeks later and took him to volunteer a few days in a hospice for terminally ill folks...many who had cancer, emphysema, etc. With my two boys, i refused to wash clothes that smelled of smoke and withheld allowances and made them skip family outings (somewhat grounded) if I ever found signs of smoking. Went through it with my youngest around the age of 15 or so. My oldest didn't mess with it much until he was over 18. In both cases, it was always more about what the kid they were doing and not so much their own idea. Neither of them smoke now, thank goodness. Course I'm uber sensitive to the smell. They used to have a friend (after they both were 18) who would come over and smoke outside in the lower part of the house. With all the doors and windows closed and from over 100 feet away, I would smell it and say something cause I thought someone was smoking in the house. Good luck. |

good lad, your not doing hard drugs have a beer with that son :thumbsup
|
my parents said they were going to take me to the hospital so i could see people dying of cancer from smoking but they never actually did..i eventually quit at 21 because i preferred to smoke weed instead.
|
well at first you should see how much he smokes by allowing him to smoke in your presence.. then make him smoke 'till he gets sick.. and always make fun of him for smoking in front of everybody.. make him feel stupid for smoking..
also search for some documentary about smoking and effects and watch it with the whole family.. and make fun of him.. bust his balls.. he deserves it.. :pimp Quote:

I'd teach him to blame George W Bush for his smoking and other problems :winkwink::1orglaugh
|
I'm almost 100% sure, if he likes smoking and if he's smoking already sometimes.
You can't make him stop. The only person that can do this is himself. Nobody made me stop smoking, just me. |
Ok, if you want some honest advice...I'd force him to volunteer for a month at a lung cancer hospital with people that were lifelong smokers. See them on oxygen, barely able to function...shitting themselves, getting fed through a tube.
He's the only person that can make him stop. Maybe seeing what the shit does to you will make him think twice about it. |

Pay a hooker to lead him on and when they're both naked she leaves saying, "I just can't fuck a guy that smells like this, sorry."
|
You really need to break him of smoking. It is so bad, I wish someone had stopped me when I was a kid. I would force him to smoke until hes sick as hell.

brutal beating followed by isolation in a closet for a few days

Back around 1970 when I was in 8th grade my science teacher gave us a lesson on smoking. He pulled out a handkerchief and smoked a cigarette through it. When he was done he showed us the yellow stain on the handkerchief that the air going through left. It was pretty disgusting.
He then told us that yellow stuff goes into your lungs with every puff on a cig. He pointed out that was only one cig and try to imagine two packs a day, every day for the rest of your shortened life. He then explained how all that yellow stuff lines the airways of your lungs which are lined with cilia. Those are tiny little hairs that that act like sweepers that help keep your lungs clear but when the cilia is covered with the yucky yellow stuff your lungs will clog up. Then you start to cough and then you start to cough up yucky stuff. It was at that moment that I understood exactly what both my parents were going through who were two pack a day smokers. My dad smoked non filter Camels :Oh crap My parents were both able to quit smoking when each had major surgery and kicked it while in the hospital. When they came home my brother and sisters made sure they didn't start up again which they never did. That science lesson and seeing it's affects on my parents was enough to convince me to never smoke. That was way back in 1970 when the dangers of smoking was just coming to light for the general public and was nowhere near the awareness that it is to day. Seriously, anyone under the age of 40 that has smoked or smokes has made a very, very poor decision that has to be based on stupidity. I look at young people today that smoke and all I see is a whole lot of FAIL. I was walking my dog the other day and I saw my neighbor and her daughter both smoking cigarettes in the driveway before they got in the car to take her to high school. That's just plain stupid to me :disgust So here's my advise. Educate him about smoking and don't leave ANYTHING out. There are about a million really good reasons to not smoke. There isn't one good reason to smoke. A few key points to touch on are obviously health and stress this the most. Explain the cycle of cigarette smokers. They start young like at 14 or 15 because they think it's cool and because of peer pressure. They smoke for a few years before finally realizing they've made a big, big mistake. Then they spend several more years trying to quit. Some are successful and some are not. Many will lose their life tragically cut short because of that stupid decision to smoke. It takes them all that to experience before they learn that the REAL cool people were the ones that knew better and didn't smoke. Point out other things like the cost and how much money is wasted and what else that money could buy him instead. Point out positive role models that don't smoke. Point out how athletes don't smoke and explain exactly why. Point out how disgusting they are. How the smell sticks to your clothes. How it makes your breath stink and girls won't want to kiss you. Point out how much of a burden it is. Always having to get yourself a pack. Always looking for a lighter or having to bum a light. Having to go outside to smoke in most public places while smarter people get to sit inside and enjoy the surroundings they picked to go to in the first place. Always having to hold something in your hand and when you want to put it down you're always looking for an ashtray. Of course if you're a slob then you just drop your ashes and then toss your butt out the window. Maybe you'll be so lost you'll dump your car's ashtray out into the street at the next stoplight. Lots of people think the beach is one giant ashtray and just push their nasty cigs into the sand for the cool people and the seagulls to deal with. :helpme Just educate as thoroughly as you can, point out what you think would have the deepest effect on them and keep on them. Why would anyone take a bad path through life when a better path has been presented to you. :) |
Make him smoke until he pukes.

At 14, educating, ripping on, talking to... he's a young adult, his mind is already made up. That's what's wrong with this country and our kids, a bunch of parents pussy coating everything, putting bumper protectors on everything.. Teaching through fear of a reality they can't see right now never works. |
