seriously, why is this general in charge of the Afghanistan War, in camouflage and army boots for a meeting in the Oval Office with the President?

this is like the Surgeon General showing up in a white lab coat carrying a jar of tongue depressors or Peyton Manning meeting the President in the Oval Office wearing his helmet and cleats.

I believe that was in Denmark during a last minute stop. And military officials are often dressed like that. Obama isn't wearing a jacket and he has high-waters... egads!

I think the "dress code" was planned. It looks informal - a "sorry to see you go, but..." event. The general has stepped down, but it doesn't look like it was a dressing down, like Truman and MacArthur. I think both sides wanted to avoid that.
