Thinking about the job offer I just got that I wasn't even looking for and will pay 50% more than I have ever made in my life but requires a bit of travel. Also thinking about having a major domain sale as managing 1700+ domains from a laptop in hotels doesn't sound like the way I wanna spend my free time when not working should I take the job which has to be decided today.

1700 domains, nice. Any quality names ?

99.9% mainstream .coms, sold and brokered plenty over the last 9 years from $100-XXX,XXX most of my own inventory have sold in the range of $500-$10,000 though but I picked 99.9% of them up for $7 so not a bad ROI on the ones I have sold so far.

@Erect, nice stuff, only domain I sold years back was a .com domain for $2500. Since then I have not had much luck flipping names. But I funnel the traffic down to the projects I work on.

I am buying at least one .com , .net domain a day and trying to build up a portfolio. Should I just stick to .com ?

stick to .com and keyword domains that are actually searched for with the google adwords tool. If any type in traffic exists it will fall to the .com extension as .com has been branded for years with Billions of dollars. Keyword generic .com domains will make more parked than made up names or alternate extensions and a stronger foundation should you decide to develop as well. Stay away from trademarks as well. .net could be okay if the domain is killer, but if just an okay domain I would stick with .com. I own a few killer alternate extension domains but 99%+ of what I own are all .com.

How do you know keyword domains that are actually searched for with google adwords tool ?

Right now I will look at a term like "Hotel Room Rates" and try to find keywords or phrases with a decent search history. Is that a right way to do ?

they kinda gayed up the new version of the adwords tool but after you type in the keyword in the box like Hotel Room Rates on the left side it will show...

I would at least pick "Global Monthly Searches" "Estimated Avg. CPC"
as this tells ya how many times per month the exact phrase is searched for and how much advertisers are willing to spend to obtain the top 1-3 position and higher values indicate it will probably make more per click when parked.

As far as where to spot inventory for sale to run through this you can join domain forums, namepros, dnforum and try to buy from other traders. You can also scout sedo, afternic, buydomains, fabulousdomains, namejet, snapnames and a lot of blogs publish expired domains for free. Almost all of my inventory was stalked by myself and a few friends and picked up after it ran through the auction houses and was registered for $7. The goal for me is to sell to an end user and not a domainer so I rarely list domains for sale at forums. Another reason before you buy a domain is to think "Who would the buyer be?" if the domain doesn't describe a product or service in demand by businesses than it will be a harder or longer sale.
