A Jerusalem planning body on Monday approved a plan to raze 22 Palestinian homes in east Jerusalem to make room for an Israeli tourist center, a decision that could raise tensions in the divided city and deepen the conflict with the Obama administration.

Not to defend the Jews, but the US government does this all the time under eminent domain laws. Very seldom property owners get fair market value and even more seldom can owners fight the loss of their property when the government wants to take it.

Later in the article, it said it was unclear who would pay for the relocation. Notice that one is a fact-jews meeting with the families; the other is not-unclear who pays for relocation.

your Mexican analogy is painfully off base. The US and Mexico have been at peace for 100+ years, there are clear defined borders. If a US citizen were to build on Mexican soil then Mexico would have the right to raze the structure and not pay shit.

But then we see this little maneuver... the SAME DAY that the restrictions are lifted... move #3-they are razing 22 Palestinian homes in Jerusalem to make way for Israeli buildings...

THIS IS DESIGNED to provoke move#4 - Hamas outraged by this launches some kind of feeble attack against Israel in retaliation... To which Israel replies... See everybody? We lift restrictions and they attack us again... now we must bomb them, and put the blockade back.

It's pathetic and nauseatingly predictable... the never ending chess game.

Very lucky I would say. My grandfather had 40 acres taken for interstate 75 in Florida in the early 60's. He was paid $2,000, less than 1 years profit on the citrus grove that they took and 1/4th the market value of barren land at the time. If you are interested, there are many cases where state and local governments have shit on property owner's rights in the US. Google it.
