Anyone going to STurgiss this August?

I know you are Bad Dog, curious if any others are going.

dallasnovelty 06-21-2010 02:46 PM

my friend Taylor Vixen will be. They already have some of her billboards going up soon

dyna mo 06-21-2010 02:51 PM

i won't be attending this year. i enjoyed the scenery the 1 time i went but don't care for the event.

To be honest, I spend very little time in Sturgis. Too much to see in surrounding areas.

baddog 06-21-2010 03:01 PM

Judging by my Sturgis beer can collection, 10. After 2006 I told myself I would not return, but it is my understanding that higher gasoline prices has made Sturgis more tolerable. Will see this year.

:thumbsup

Sturgis [and surrounding areas] was not built to handle the influx of trailers and motor homes that show up for Bike Week. They fuck it up for the rest of us. :2 cents:

Ride or stay home.

absolutely, positively correct. :thumbsup i've heard it's gotten really bad since the year i went and i thought it bad enough then to not want to go back again, at least during the event.

baddog 06-21-2010 04:21 PM

You would not recognize it. I know I barely did.

Main Street, when I was there at the beginning of May.

that's the time i would like to ride up that way.

say, you ever take the night train on long hauls or do you stick with the bagger exclusively.

i've done ~500 mile days on the dyna, no windshield, not sure i would want to do that all the way north. my flh had the bat wing.

I think 300 miles is about the most I have done in one day on it. I would not do an overnighter with it since there is no place to bring anything with me.

I did take my 86 Heritage everywhere without a windshield though.

Daytona Bike Week and back for one (1987). Did the Phoenix Forum in my late 40's although, on the way back I almost stopped and bought one. Was really windy that day.

I used to do 700 mile days with no shield. I do remember coming home from SF and telling my wife that I was not going to ride more than 500 miles in a day any more when I was in my mid-30's. She bought me a windshield for xmas and that rule dropped immediately.

I'm at the point in life where staying at a Hilton is roughing it and a Holiday Inn is camping ..... so no I won't be back "in season" ... Great area to cruse the rest of the year as Baddog has pointed out.

The longest days I've ridden were traveling to California/Sonoma from Kentucky for Kyle Petty's charity ride to his house in the Carolinas. For the inaugural ride I arrived in time to nap in a support trailer until the race was over then ride to Vegas.

Those NASCAR fuckers really do ride though.

super nice! i've always dug the rk. when it comes time for me to add a bagger to the stable, i'll have a tough time deciding between an rk and the road glide, the rg's massive frame mounted fairing is kick ass imo.

that's a cool pic too, where is that?

Photo's from outside Silver City New Mexico.

The best situation is Baddogs, a street bike and a cruiser. Roadking is a good compromise.

Nice to see ya coming back Baddog. Not sure if I'll make it up in the black hills area this year as the wife is due right around that time. I better stay home lol. Let me know if how far South you come possibly. I'm just 15 miles from the SD/NE border.

baddog 06-21-2010 09:06 PM

Congrats.

Uh yeah, Sturgis is pretty much a shithole 51 weeks of the year. It's a fucking toilet, really. But as you said, there is tons of cool shit to do out there, just stay out of Sturgis.
