So Be Honest How Many People Are Thinking Of Quitting The Biz Soon??
So how many are realizing this shit is pretty much over and plan to quit or just let shit run on auto pilot while you do somthing else?
Probably most of you will post things have never been better and you are having the best month of your career and post a pic of your new mercedes lol :winkwink: |
|

I suck at hand coding or maybe i would go outside with a sign :D :Oh crap |
I am actively looking for alternatives. When I settle on one I'm happy with, whether that's a month from now or a year from now... I will vanish without a trace. The adult biz has been eating itself for years. It's run by mostly immature college-minded "make money fast" types and no one gives an actual shit about the industry as long as they get their cut.
That's not an environment I want to spend the rest of my life in. But that's just me. :2 cents: |

I work hard, and sales come in. Why quit?
|
Will still be around as long as money can be made. I have other things on the go just now aswell as adult, so i have a back-up plan if you want to call it that...
|
if most of your adult revenue is generated by 1 or 2 websites, let's talk i might be interested in picking them up...

I plan on being around for years since every month has been an increase for me. But then again, my network is only 18 months old. Maybe when I "level off" I'll look for other shit to do - unless by "level off" I mean a shitload of cashola. Heh heh.
But basically, I AM thinking of diversifying and launching some mainstream projects. never a good idea to have all your eggs in one basket, eh? |
Transitioning or DIVERSIFYING into mainstream? Check out my sig to see how we can help you :)

Can not post original since I have to wait till mid next year :/ waiting lists suck

Quit? No. Making it a part time gig. Yes. I want to make a lot more money than what I'm currently earning in adult, but that doesn't mean I will completely quit. I'm venturing more into mainstream, but I will never sell off my adult sites.

Theres still more then enough money to be made.
The thing is people now have to work hard for it. Or better said: Have to work more hours to get the same results. The thing is, webmasters are lazy animals. Most of us are stuck in the 90's where we could put up ANY simple landingpage and money would come running in like water. I dont think i can ever make the same amounts with a regular job as im doing with the online business. Be smart, keep up with new technologies. Work hard. Smile to the bank. |

Well, yes I have protection on my Server, use various programs to "catch" anyone downloading huge amounts of content at once, etc etc. But as everyone on here knows: you can't completely stop a motivated pirate. Sorry Robbie, Stickyfingerz et al, it can't be done 100% (and I'm not even saying those guys are saying that, just that they're some of the biggest proponents of stopping piracy). ANYway: I only worry about what I can control, and then analyze how much it's worth to control X. I send out DMCA's and have employed services to do so but basically I concentrate on new sources of traffic and new sales so the growth has been continual. Hope that answers your question. LOL |
I'm not planning to quit anytime soon :thumbsup

People in adult are animals when it comes to their (our) industry. The closest we get to unionizing or banding together or even talking to each other at all are these messageboards and some ICQs & emails. And then all we do is argue and complain with each other. Webmaster events and expos aren't carried out to improve the industry or join toward some common goal, it's to hawk more shit to other webmasters and stay drunk for a week. There may be other industries out there that are as disconnected as we are, but I've never been a part of them. And the worst part is, we have nothing to fight with even if we needed to. We can't strike. We can't disconnect the porn. We can't "hold out" or negotiate. If Washington decided to pass some crazy anti-porn law tomorrow, whether it's right or wrong would be irrelevant, we'd simply be fucked. No one fights for Adult. And if they did, what would they say or do? Nothing. Remember Ashcroft? What if there's someone in the future that's worse? Even our own customers wouldn't fight for it. Which side of the aisle is going to stand up and publicly argue FOR porn in Washington. Neither. I'm sorry to those that don't want to hear it, but all of that has got 'Dead End' written all over it in my eyes. I'm not saying porn is going to vanish or anything, I'm saying that this is the reality of the business we're in, and it's not what I want. That's all. I'm not anti-porn or anything, I just want better organization and support and purpose in my life. I've been in Adult for 10 years and I know now, I'm not going to find that in the Adult industry. We are disconnected and unorganized and always will be. It's just the way it is. But I don't see how you can say any other industry is the same. That simply isn't true. Walmart workers are more organized than we are. |
each person or group here is an individual business. we don't work together just as wal mart doesn't work with target.
do you think wal mart cares if they destroy the retail landscape? no, for them that is the goal. to be the last one standing. do you think brazzers cares if they destroy online adult? no, that just means they won. we are all competitors although there may be alliances from time to time. your thinking is confused here. i've been transitioning/diversifying for the last several months. i sold my main adult property a while back but am shooting my own content for a micro-niche site that has yet to be exploited and am also working hard on a mainstream business opportunity.

Transportation Industry: Organized Weapons Industry: Organized Airline Industry: Organized Tobacco Industry: Organized Medical Industry: Organized Agriculture Industry: Organized Oil Industry: Organized Music Industry: Organized Hollywood/Movie Industry: Organized Legal & Accounting Industries: Organized Banking Industry: Organized etc. The list is lengthy but hell, even the illegal drug industry is better organized. What is the Adult Industry doing for itself? [crickets] anyone? :anon |

admin - betavisions - com To answer the topic... working harder and investing more in adult then ever and making more then ever aswell. I dont see myself going anywhere anytime soon. |
adult will never be organized because of societal taboos. you can always work as a janitor if you want that.

I quit in 2006 so 90-95% of my stuff today is mainstream, just came back in 2009 with a few small adult projects, when you guys quit hit me up as I currently have 1700+ domains under management all mainstream for your new projects. :1orglaugh
|
I been in the adult industry for 8 years, and just started this new project to help boost the declining adult cam industry. Seeing a slowdown, but instead of fearing shutdown, I re-invented a new approach. :)

Talking as an affiliate and talking about affiliates here (not sponsors)
Most of my income comes from Mainstream currently and I find that it's a LOT easier to make money in mainstream than in adult. only a small percentage of my income comes from adult projects that are almost on auto pilot. If someone here says that he's still doing great in adult, it's either because he's using new techniches (sometimes blackhat), he's lucky or whatever, but most webmasters I know personally have quit during the last year (specially western european webmasters where the cost of living is insane) others are working like slaves 24/7 and have no life to keep their earnings. anyway, if its easier to make money in mainstream, i really don't understand why some people keep crashing their heads with adult.. maybe because they are not able to learn a completely new business or are too lazy to switch. anyway, soon or late they will have no chance but move. even hard working 24/7 with long term revshares. Again we are talking about affiliates. so, that said, the only ones that could keep in the business are some sponsor owners with a solid base of whale affiliates. those guys are confortable and have no problems because they live off the sucker slave workers that send them sales. |

I am diversifying, for sure.
|
adult is maturing, really.
advice: diversify like a mother fuck or as much as possible whether it be in adult or mainstream, online or offline. something takes a shit at least you can redirect your energy. :2 cents: |
Everything's good :thumbsup
|
5 yrs plan to be done. At that point been doing something in adult for over 30 yrs from part time to fulltime . Making the plan for the change :)

well i'll be sticking around for as long as there's a reasonable return on investment BUT for the first time since I got into this 12 years ago I am facing the possibility that I'll have to do something else if i don't want to live in some crappy apartment and eat CheezeWhiz when i'm 65 if i make it that long. i bought a site that i can turn into a mainstream-ish site, how to make money with it i'm not sure but i'm learning. and i have another idea for a mainstream website that sells both tangible and downloadable products that would cost me a lot for the domain and manufacturing/distributing the product but i want to try it.
then there's the suing business, all my content is reg'ed with the Library of Congress, i'm crossing my fingers that some of these lawsuits against tube sites go in favor of the copyright owners. I don't have hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend on lawsuits without knowing I've got a very good chance to win. i'd love to sue some of these forums and blogs with their millions of links to Rapidshare hosted copyright infringements but so far I haven't seen a lawsuit against one - I'm not rich enough to be the first. |
