A question for Non-US webmasters....

Just Curious, How much does your bank charge you to deposit a US check? :upsidedow

nolongerexists 06-20-2010 08:22 AM

around 5-7 USD

Domain Diva 06-20-2010 08:25 AM

Montreal Canada..

I have 2 accounts with different banks...both charge $0 ...one cashes them instantly ( on the basis if it gets returned I have to pay the amount back ) the other places a 30 day hold on the funds.....

mikke 06-20-2010 08:35 AM

near 7 USD, and i receive money in 30d

MrBottomTooth 06-20-2010 08:56 AM

Nothing in Canada if you have a US dollar account with them, ho hold time either. I deposit it into my US dollar account then transfer to my chequing as I need it.

DiF0r 06-20-2010 09:07 AM

0$ and I get the money instantly

Chosen 06-20-2010 09:31 AM

It was so long ago I don't even remember :)
ePassporte all the way :thumbsup

Shags 06-20-2010 09:51 AM

Pornopat 06-20-2010 01:41 PM

u-Bob 06-20-2010 02:03 PM

12.5 euros

andrej_NDC 06-20-2010 02:11 PM

$10 + -

Calico Jack 06-20-2010 02:14 PM

I get 7 cheques (checks) banked for $20 Australian.

scarlettcontent 06-20-2010 02:18 PM

22 dollars

qdtobbe 06-20-2010 02:45 PM

Around $20

CurrentlySober 06-20-2010 02:48 PM

About £10 per 'time' for me. I just hand in the checks, either 1 or 2 or a year ago, 20 or more, and they do it all for me.

Doesn't matter how many diff checks from how many diff companies. Its a 'per visit' kinda thing.

fuzebox 06-20-2010 04:46 PM

No charge, but a 30 day hold... Easier just to deposit into my US account whenever I make a trip.

My US bank is coming out with a scan-and-deposit tool for internet banking which is kind of cool.

directfiesta 06-20-2010 04:47 PM

nothing .. in Can or US account ...

mineistaken 06-20-2010 04:54 PM

minimum of 3eur, but its more if cheques is higher than few hundred (percentage then is counted)

Pryda 06-20-2010 04:56 PM

Around 30$ plus a percentage or two for the conversion from $ to €.

faxxaff 06-20-2010 11:14 PM

Foreigners can open checking accounts in the USA. Why cash them in the EU, anyhow?

janosik 06-20-2010 11:21 PM

My retarded bank just started charging 30 Euros for one check. I have not noticed it and cashed $25 CCBill check (I take them about 6 weeks to cash it). So I end up with loosing money on this one :)

martinsc 06-20-2010 11:50 PM

it was a lot... since then i use only epass :thumbsup

BJ 06-21-2010 12:32 AM

not even worth it here in phuket, TH. 45 day+ wait, passport copies, many forms, etc.

chupachups 06-21-2010 12:35 AM

Fuckers charge me like 35-40euros and thats because they are "being nice". Normally it can be as high as 140euro for the bigger ones..

Canadian here, they don't charge me anything. If its a cheque from a new company, they hold it for 15 days. Otherwise it's usually within a day or two.

v4 media 06-21-2010 12:54 AM

My bank used to let me accumulate checks and then charge me $7 per batch, and clear them at once. Then I had a big check bounce on me so they changed the rules..
Now its around $10 each and 6 weeks wait.

Although some checks can cost a fortune to cash. And others, Canadian banks with USD amounts, my bank wont even cash them anymore.

Now I just get wires.

Fiddler 06-21-2010 01:16 AM

£25 per visit to the bank. As many cheques as you have.

Which bank?

I used to get unlimited cheques for zero fee at Westpac, with immediate clearance...
Then it changed to unlimited for $15
Then it changed to $15 per 4 cheques
Then it changed to $20 per 4 cheques with no more immediate clearance ($35 for the big ones)

Bugger that.

HomerSimpson 06-21-2010 03:58 AM

1% of the check amount - min. 1 EUR

strobi 06-21-2010 03:59 AM

Around 25$ and a 21 days waiting time.

Nicky 06-21-2010 04:01 AM

I haven't deposited a check in like 5 years but when I did It used to be around $13 per check and 7 day's hold on the money.

it cost me 2.5$ or 1%, what is bigger

pornguy 06-21-2010 05:36 AM

A % and that amount usually depends on how much you have in their bank.

TheDA 06-21-2010 05:43 AM

Haven't done it for a while but it was around $10-15 for unlimited cheques in the UK.

CarlosTheGaucho 06-21-2010 06:21 AM

Flat fee of about $5 and additional time for clearing.

But it's still way, way better solution than trying to get a wire.

Klen 06-21-2010 07:21 AM

It used be nothing, now they charge 8$,and 12$ for bigger amounts like 1000$.

Wizzo 06-21-2010 07:21 AM

Man, that 30 day hold sounds like such a bitch! With everything being electronic, they should technically be able to verify funds instantly, hmph!
