Anyone in the Antilles? Storm Comin.
 

Meteorologists wrote this storm off, but it looks like it exploded in the past few hours and the warmest waters are ahead.
This map might auto update so eventuall the storm might not be on this screen anymore.

While it bloomed quickly, I don't see the rotation needed to become a hurricane.

You may be right ... according to the NHC there is no surface circulation at the moment, but they did raise thieir % from 0 to 20 percent in the last few hours

Curacou, Aruba and Bonaire hardly ever get hit by anything.
If you are there the most extreme you will see is heavy rain.

every year I wonder if it's going to be Andrew all over again.

I live in Texas and fully expect to get hit every year. I have bought flood insurance, cut wood stacked in the garage to cover the windows, electric generators, emergency supplies and hand-crank powered radio. I remember being in Carla as a kid and Rita came so close that I could see the storm clouds on the horizon.

You are right....the odds say that if you live near the Gulf Coast, your day will come - sooner or later.

I think the methane and petroleum will be sucked up into the first hurricane of the season and when we get the first lightning bolt, the whole storm will explode into a raging inferno that will ravage the cities and countryside with walls of flaming rain and exploding lightning bolts.........<where are my movie rights?>

This storm looks like it fizzled, but the meteorologist I follow (Jeff Masters) www.wunderground.com says it could come back to life. I recommend his blog (right hand side scroll down) for anyone interested in hurricanes and storms and the oil spill.

I've been in a shitload of hurricanes, including in the direct path of katrina. For some reason, I don't remember any thunder or lightening in any hurricane. I could be wrong.

In a real hurricane, you don't see the lightning because you are inside hiding away from the windows. And, you can't hear the thunder over the howling of the wind.
