Organizer considers banning "vuvuzelas", the noisy plastic trumpets being used by South African fans en masse. Hope so. Too noisy

Vuvuzelas have the potential to spread colds and flu as a lot of breath goes through the vuvuzela," McNerney said, adding that they can infect others on a greater scale than coughing or shouting.

McNerney was involved in a recent study of eight healthy volunteers who blew the vuvuzela in order to measure what comes out at the other end. They found that tiny droplets which can carry flu and cold germs were formed at the bottom of a vuvuzela.

Those particles are small enough to stay suspended in the air for hours, and can enter into the airways of a person's lungs

They announced they won't ban them? Whoa is that the stupidest business move ever - especially in the United States, I won't be watching games I would have watched because of that sound. I'll watch important games in later rounds and put up with the annoyance.

Sitting and blowing contantly into those noise makers for 2 hours straight seems rather mindless to me. But whatever floats their boat I suppose.

If they can't ban the damn things themselves then maybe for world cup 2014 they'll ban S Africans. :D

The fuckers do it all day, not only at the game.

After the game last night, the commentators were interviewing players etc, and the assholes were still doing it in the stadium.

The French team said they couldn't sleep the night before their match because people were out in the streets with those damn things from 6am...

I love the World Cup. I have been waiting a long time for this event but damn...Those things are insanely stupid. I would hate to have flown all the way down there and pay all kinds of money just to be annoyed to the point of suicide. Simmer down now! At least mix it up with some actual melodic tunes instead of one continuing angry swarm of bees sound.

worst part is its constant.. if someone scores? sure! if there was a great play? go for it.. your team wins hell yeah.. but constantly? even in the halftime breaks? i couldn't watch the game and do that constantly.. i'd miss the whole thing..

Heard in the local news that the company making these horns will from now on make them with a 20db lower max sound level.
All the current sold ones won't be banned though, so a bit too late for that to change anything
