Is anybody from GFY going to the World Cup 2010 in South Africa?
I was in Germany and before that in Japan but decided to skip South Africa as it seems to risky, will be going swimming in Florida instead :winkwink:

Absolutely wish I was. Was a 50/50 call, and now that I have seen the stupid times the games are on over here I should have gone.

I thought being in Africa we would get some decent times here in Aus, but looks like all the really good games are set for euro and America friendly times again :(

People do not realise how sensationalised stuff is, bunny rabbits and shit just don't make good news. Believe me, the stuff we see over here about the USA and Europe is not exactly the greatesst either.

The news always broadcasts the worst, that's where the ratings lie.

My wife is from Durban, (she's Indian), and we go back every year for a few weeks.... and the crime there, (and in Jo'burg), is just CRAZY. Most of her family have been held up at gun point at some time, either in their homes, while being carjacked, or whatever. They live in nice areas with security and high electric fences, but they are still wary about who is around when they pull up to their gates at night, stopping at red lights at night when there are no other cars around, etc.... In January this year we were dropping off a friend in a lovely area at about midnight, and she was yelling at us not to stand outside after saying goodnight to her, just to get in the car and drive, before someone jumped us.

3 months ago my wife;s mother was with 14 other old indian women getting together to remember one of their dead husbands, and 4 guys with guns broke in to the house, and robbed all of them, in the middle of the afternoon. 3 weeks after that, her cousin, who lives in an apartment 2 blocks from the police station, had two guys stick a gun through her car window into her chest, and steal everything, including her car, right in the parking lot of the apartments.


yes, there are some overblown reports overseas, but don't kid yourselves. Whenever we have South Africans come to visit us in Miami, they are always shocked at how relaxed we can be about security and how much less fearful of violent crime we are here.

Ya sure I'm not saying SA is the most safest country in the world but those pics were a bit to much, lol. Maybe it was only ment as a joke, who knows...
Maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones. Never been robbed, stabbed, mugged, etc.. But ya some places in SA are very dodgy, not even I would go there.

Some bad stuff happened to my family as well. My brother along with his two little ones was hi-jacked few years back by two armed faggots pointing guns at them and shit. My parents got back from the bank one day with quite a bit of cash on them and the moment they drove into their driveway, bam, four guys jumped them. So ya don't get me wrong there is crime here, and a lot of it, most probably more than in a lot of other countries but people tend to over react sometimes just a tad.

Now I'm just waiting for the pictures where the animals walk among us, he he.

just read today that a hotel with journalists near Johannesburg was robbed by a couple of guys with guns. i know that the media loves to blow stuff up, but i prefer this country here where the biggest crooks are cab drivers who overcharge you
