Many Gulf Federal Judges Have Oil Links

More than half of the federal judges in districts where the bulk of Gulf oil spill-related lawsuits are pending have financial connections to the oil and gas industry, complicating the task of finding judges without conflicts to hear the cases, an Associated Press analysis of judicial financial disclosure reports shows.

Disturbing story here...

Is this really disturbing or surprising? I mean really? Judges are appointed or elected... where do you think they get the money? From their constituents. What do the constituents of these judges do? They work in the oil industry.

In the Midwest you'll find judges with farm ties, in the northwest you'll probably find judges with logging ties, in the southeast you'll probably find judges with sugar ties, and on and on and on.

Obama administration sheltered BP's Deepwater Horizon Rig from regulatory requirement.

I find it strange that you think judges have financial connections that may determine the outcome of cases that come before them and yet no mention of Obama's connections.

Within the last two weeks he attended a $17,000 a plate fundraiser at the Getty mansion in CA for Barbara Boxer.
Add to that his contributions from BP during the Presidential campaign and I would say hes as guilty as any politician despite his rhetoric to the contrary.

Or his deep connection to big pharm and big insurance. Or his even deeper connection to the profiteering off of cap n trade.

People are speculating that is the reason he is dragging his feet on the Gulf of Mexico leak. He wants to build support for the upcoming bill.

BFT3K 06-06-2010 06:01 PM

Yeah, this is obviously all fucking Obama's fault!

Damn hippy, liberal commie, with his damn exploding oil rig!

Dvae 06-06-2010 06:03 PM

Hes not exactly blameless

Dcat 06-06-2010 06:04 PM

It gets worse.

BP chief Tony Hayward sold shares weeks before oil spill

Goldman Sachs sold $250 million of BP stock before spill

:(

They should just shoot those judges right now, because nothing good for Louisiana will come of this.

Well, maybe nothing that extreme, but certainly we should not rely on the foxes to guard the chicken house.

Look to the law for fault. Judges shouldn't be able to have financial connections to ANY businesses. How could you possible expect impartiality if the turd is making money off of it?!

Laws need to fundamentally change.

Helix 06-06-2010 06:18 PM

The whole system needs a good shake-up. November is coming.

I agree with you, and I also want to mention this...

Sometimes, when I am drinking a bit, and I glance at your avatar, it kinda reminds me of a girl about to blow a horse. You kinda have to be a little wasted, and glance a the screen peripherally, in the dark, but I've wanted to tell you that for a while now.

Phew! I'm glad I finally got that off my chest!

Thank you internet!

I could have swore we heard these words two years ago.

You are right, but it is a fixed game. No matter what happens, we are slaves to a 2 party system. Are you suggesting we need to go back to a Republican rule? Is that what you are hoping happens in November? I don't see how that change, 2 years after we finally got rid of those idiots, would help us in any way...
