iPad Arcade Cabinet

The iCade($150) from thinkgeek, it is an arcade cabinet accessory for your iPad.

To use the iCade, gently slide the iPad into the docking cradle. The docking cradle uses a standard 30 pin connector to link the iPad to the professional-grade arcade controls. Once the iPad is in place, launch the iCade App (available free in the App Store April 3rd) and it's game on! We didn't want to take any chances you'd run out of juice during your favorite game, so we included a 10w USB power adapter so you can charge the iPad through any electrical outlet.

That is............

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! :thumbsup

I loved Q-Bert.

SBJ 06-05-2010 10:38 PM

that is 100% FAKE! :(:(

Too bad cause i had my CC out and was about to buy it but after not finding the app in the app store a simple google brought me to this
How the fake 'iCade' could become real

hopefully it becomes real cause that would be cool to play old school games like donkey kong on a table top arcade like that

NaughtyRob 06-05-2010 10:39 PM

Thats fucking baddass for us oldies.

The iCade is so sweeeet. I loved QBert too!

crockett 06-05-2010 10:41 PM

This would be awesome TBH, but it's a fake and Apple wouldn't let them emulate the games anyway. This IMO would be the only reason I'd even buy an iPad.

** Please Note ** The iCade MAME Emulator App is already approved and will be in the App Store in time for the April 3rd iPad product launch. The app is free, but it does require the iCade Arcade Cabinet hardware to function properly.

$149.99 http://www.thinkgeek.com/stuff/41/iCade.shtml

ThinkGeek April Fools products have a history of becoming actual products.

I said that this would happen when someone originally posted it here.

Grumpy old man that I am, ThinkGeek?s iCade retro arcade cabinet for the iPad was the only April Fools joke that I found vaguely amusing. Promising, then, that the retailer describes it as ?our most posted, tweeted and blogged about product this April Fools? and suggests that a real-world version is in fact ?a possibility.? Geekosystem pestered ThinkGeek about the chance of the iCade ? which looks like a desktop arcade cabinet, into which an Apple iPad slots ? crossing over from comedy mock-up to legitimate device, and while there are several hurdles (not least Apple themselves) it?s definitely being considered.

I kinda get it would be cool to show off to your friends, but really, it would also be a waste of cash (IMO) If you really wanted to just play the original arcade games.

I mean iPad = $500 Cabinet = $149 Games free Total $649

Just Download MAMEui (FREE)

Download your roms (GAMES) FREE

Get an arcade controller from logic3 $30.00 (Ish) - I only have UK prices
http://www.logic3.com/_images/produc...'1612'

Job Done - All the original games on your PC
For About $30...

GTS Mark 06-06-2010 09:27 AM

I think it's more about the old school visual appeal, rather than what it costs. If you have a iPad sitting on a desk with a controller next to it no one will take a second glance. Have it sitting there looking like a mini Arcade machine and everyone is gonna be wanting to know what it is.

ie.. it's a conversation piece..

although that controller would be a sweet set up if anyone decided to build their own iCade. assuming it worked with the iPad.

BigRod 06-06-2010 09:35 AM

I went scrambling for my wallet!

When I was a kid I owned a bunch of the little arcade games. Anyone else remember these?

Yea, I had one of those as well, but I forget which game it was. LOL kids these days wouldn't know what to do with one of those.

I totally agree. If I had an iPad, and that was availible, hell yeah, I'd probably buy it...
