ipod touch users, I need your help, please!

My husband has his ipod that is packed full of his music, songs he wrote and others, and it took me literally months to get everything on there the way he wants it on there...... but, his computer crashed and he lost all of the hard copies on his computer.

So now I am trying to figure out how I can get the songs from his ipod to his computer and it keeps wanting to sync it and update it but warns of it erasing his ipod.

Is there a way to get his music from his ipod back onto his computer? I have been trying to figure this out for weeks and it's got me so confused.

launch iTunes / plug in device
stop all syncing activities
click on your 'device' on the left side (in iTunes window)
change your 'Options'
- click ON, manually manage music and video
- click ON, enable disk use
close iTunes

you should now be able to see your iPod as you would any USB memory/storage device (you may have to eject/unplug and the re plug before explorer sees it)

use windows explorer to drag the music onto your harddrive

they wont be MP3's anymore but at least you can save them.

don't forget to UNCLICK the above two options before going back to normal use/syncing

hope this helps

********* no guarantees - i've only had to do this once **************

Thanks guys, I'll give both of your options a go and see which one works. :thumbsup

I'd be interested in knowing how it goes. I am afraid to plug my ipod into my laptop after it erased 90% of the music I had stored on it.

This is indeed the easier way to transfer files from the ipod.

If all fails, try XPlay 3. It gives you direct access to your iPod touch or iPhone.

Thankfully when I set itunes up on his pc, I had it let me manually sync it, otherwise it would have done the same thing to him.

Thanks so much for this help, all of you. One of these will surely let me do it. So I owe one of you big time. :)

Some of this music, he cannot replace, it's his original music.

He doesn't know I have backups of that on my computer.... he must learn to stop crashing computers. lmao
