How much could I sell my old computer for ?
I just recently got a great deal on a new system, it's not fully tweaked out, so I was thinking about selling my old system to buy some upgrades for my new system. It's still semi-tweaked, but not for me anymore, he he he.
Here's my old system, it's a 2 year old Gateway - 1-Ghz Athlon 512 megs 100-mhz SDRAM 20 gig 7200 RPM hard drive Geforce 3 TI200 video card Sound Blaster Live X-Gamer 12X12X32 cd burner 40X cd player 3com ethernet card 4.1 digital surround sound system Windows XP (upgraded cd) Quicken and Works Suite I was thinking of trying to get $500 for it, what do you guys think ? I know, I know, some of you will probably say that it may be too much to ask, but keep in mind that I'm looking at whipping up some flyers and popping them around some local stores and colleges, so the people aren't as much on the latest technologies as us, so the might be willing to pay more. I think that it's a pretty rounded system though, the only real weakness is the processor and out-dated ram. |
I just sold a 3 year old 400 mhz P3, 128 MB RAM, Dell Optiplex for $200 to a local company, so you should be able to get $500 from the right buyer.

Here's how I figure it price wise -
$70 1-Ghz Athlon (+motherboard) $30 512 megs 100-mhz SDRAM $25 20 gig 7200 RPM hard drive $60 Geforce 3 TI200 video card $30 Sound Blaster Live X-Gamer $40 12X12X32 cd burner $10 40X cd player $10 3com ethernet card $30 4.1 digital surround sound system $50 Windows XP (upgraded legal cd) $25 Quicken and Works Suite Hmmmm...... I did some figuring here, getting some prices from Ebay and this is what I figure, which total $380. Maybe I couldn't get $500, but then again, I guess that it all depends on who's buying it :) I didn't take the highest prices though, I put in the average/lower prices, so who knows. I guess that i won't know how much I can get until I try. |
Don't sell on ebay, sell locally, there will always be someone that will pay that much, espially if they think they are getting a bargain.

My computer is close to what you have with the exception of
850mhz processor and I have a 32x12x48 cd-rw and an additional 40 gig hard drive I paid 800 new for mine 14 months ago might be worth half that now Nbritt |

Looks like a good machine to play around with Linux.

I know that I see it a lot in my local paper. Like you say, most of them make you wanna laugh your ass off. Heck, just a couple of weeks ago, there was someone selling a 200 Mhz computer with 64 megs of ram and a 10-gig hard drive, looking to get $375 for it, so I guess that my system sitting there for $500 would look like one hell of a deal compared to that, he he he. |
Personally, I think a used computer isn't worth a plug nickel, but you can sell anything at more than it's worth on those auction sites. A sucker is born every minute.

Sounds like a system worth just hangin onto and using it for backup or secondary work..
Just crank it up and run your stock monitor & such... It's always good to have a no.2 system sittin around.. just in case.. |
I'll give you $200 for it.

How much could I get for my Dell Dimension PII 233 ? I bought this baby in 1997 for about $1500 dollars. I'm looking for about 500 although I think its worth a bit more, with the upgrades and sentimental value, I could go on . Any offers? I'll even throw in the Altec Lansing speakers that accompanied this beauty at the time of purchase. Serious offers need only apply. Many Thanks.

you could easily get $500 for it if you talk to someone who doesn't know how to build a computer. now if you try to sell it to someone who knows how to build a computer they will call you an idiot.

Well guys, I think that I have a buyer for my old computer already. I was talking to a buddy about how I was planning on selling it for $500 and he said that he knew of another friend that could use it, but asked if I could knock it down a little, so I took it down to $450 just so I wouldn't feel bad about ripping him off, ha ha ha. I'm sure that I could've easily gotten $500 for it.
Actually, in my mind, I think that it's a pretty good deal for him. I did think abou keeping it around as a spare, but for now, I really only have use for one system and I worried that if I kept it lingering around here for a couple of years before i used it, it'd really be old, so I figured I'd sell it now while I can still get a couple hundred for it. Now I can head on over to NewEgg.com and order me up a Radeon 9700 Pro and Soundblaster Audigy 2 which with shipping costs $453 :) so that'll work out pretty well for me. |
