CUDA cards only work this magic with CUDA-enabled software. In my case I'm on the new Adobe CS5 with GTX285 cards in the workstations. Premiere Pro CS5 has the CUDA-enabled Mercury Playback Engine ...and it rocks the house, man.
Fastest, most stable performance you can get these days, provided you have the right equipment. Amazing stuff.
