Artists: how hard is it to make a cartoon like this?

I want to make a basic 3 minute cartoon like this

Could 1 person animate this, or does it take like a whole team to do this?

not hard, very rough estimate is $100/sec +-
one would have to consider: scripting, characters, storyboards & production (animation, scenery, audio and voice actors)
Disney type cartoons $250/sec and up.

btw I have resources to manage animation/video production for non-adult projects.

so $18,000 for a 3 minute cartoon?
is this something i can learn myself? or would it take a whole team to do it?

i just want more details so i can see if this is something i can pursue. I have an idea for something Ive always wanted to do and want to make a basic pitch for it.

We made a toon commercial similar to Redbulls. It was 150EUR/sec. Hit me up if you need examples.

i know people in porn industry expect everything done for free or peanuts. :error you won't convince any serious animation house to get it done for 500 bucks.
I said very rough estimate because haven't run this by my animation guys, maybe its possible to get it done for 5-10k, i'm not sure atm, last time I checked flash toon production costs were in a range of $100-250 per second. If someone is serious about this kind of stuff I can get them more precise estimate.

I honestly have no idea if this is something you can learn yourself or not. I would imagine one could make something like that, but any serious project involves team of people for a production.

they just have no idea what it takes to produce toon or video clip, although I outlined in my first post and going to duplicate it here again:
- scripting
- characters
- storyboards
- production (includes animation, scenery, audio and voice overs)
- post production, mastering

^^ all of this require many men hours

6000$ per minute sounds right, same price as 10 years ago

haven't actually watched the op video to see how crappy it is, obviously if the characters are just static with flapping mouths and such it's cheaper but there's a limit to how cheap you can make it

seems about right. It all depends on who's doing the work and who's ordering :)

Much more difficult than you would expect I reckon. Try to find an up and coming flash artist and make them an offer.

harvey 05-31-2010 11:23 AM

wow. I tried to charge $800 per minute a few years ago and people laughed at me and now people is charging more than $100 PER SECOND? I know mainstream is a different story, but I had a team of guys doing work 10 times that quality and the only thing we needed was teh script. And nowhere close to those prices. Or are you telling me you're tweening old school with 31 DRAWN IMAGES per second? If so, you're charging very little. If you're using flash, and someone pays you that much, well, more power for you. Either way, it sounds unrealistic to me, especially for adult business.

btw, I don't have those guys anymore, those fuckers are doing half the animated advertising of fucking Latin America (and some US/Euro) and making loads of money, winning prizes and such. If anyone had paid us $20/30 per second they'd be rocking the adult scene :(

Naechy 05-31-2010 12:29 PM

cool video

Exactly. I was under the impression that there's software that does away with much of the screen by screen animation. Also, throw in outsourcing and the price is probably under that. I have to agree with the part about the SCRIPTING/STORYBOARD...those are probably best left to US contractors but the grunt work could probably be outsourced.

Hentaikid 06-01-2010 03:25 PM

3 minutes sounds like nothing, especially in the porn biz where you just switch on the camera and roll but even the shittiest animation has to be made second by second, 3 minutes is 180 seconds, figure a couple of hours (low ball) for each second and even the cheapest outsourcing means a chunk of cash
