Question
Hi there , I will like to purchase your car for sale at the site for the siad price..but, i can only pay using pay pal, and after payments has been made, i will arrange for pick up myself. I am buying it for my dad as a birthday gift. I can only pay through paypal as i dont have access to my bank account online as i dont have internet banking, but i have my bank account attached to my paypal account. I am an oceanographer and, i am on sea at the moment and this is why i insisted on paying you through paypal. Kindly get back to me with your paypal details and your last asking price so, we can proceed with the payment and after the payment has been done, i have a pick up agent that will come around to pick the item up after i have made the payments for it. They will be shipping it down to their engineering crew for servicing if need be.. I will be looking forward hearing back from you.. Greetings

Sounds like a solid sale. (other than the ridiculous Paypal fees)

Go for it. What could possibly go wrong.

tell him i have a bridge to sell him to go with your car and see if he wants to paypal me too...lol

ottopottomouse 05-30-2010 09:51 AM

Someone must fall for it otherwise they wouldn't be trying it on.

Isn't this one of those car buying scams? It sounds too shady to me, I would pass. Who has access to PayPal but not online banking? She could just as easily call the bank and have them wire the money. They would send her an authorization form and that's it.

I got a similar one a couple of weeks ago, a marine in iraq who says he's moving here in 3 months and wants to break the payments up monthly until he gets here...

sound like a scam to me

BlackCrayon 05-30-2010 10:25 AM

Don't you have to have a bank account before you can get a paypal account? I remember setting my account up and them having to verify my banking info.

Don't think i've ever had mine tied to my bank account. They did send me a letter with a code in it to confirm my address though.

To buy a car with paypal is a strange thing. Usually paypal is used for small payments over the Internet.

In my life there were at least 2 occasions when the buyer didn't give a shit about the car I was selling. To my complete surprise. They just asked if the radio stays and how much gas does it consume.

Yeah it's a total scam, i have been getting spammed with these guys like crazy ever since i listed my car on trader.ca

All want to pay via paypal and all want to pay for shipping for the car on top of that. It's a well known craigslist scam.

Tell me you aren't this gullible, its the classic Nigerian craigslist scam that they are now running on just about every other site. There's lots of different variations, basically they trick you into thinking a transaction has been completed, and then take possession of the goods and then reverse the transaction or simply email you a fake paypal receipt.

I put my car up for trade 2 weeks ago on CL and put very clearly in the description what I wanted and made it a point to say I don't want S10 trucks (because every time I mention trading the S10 owners come out of the woodwork)...

sure as shit the first email I got was a guy with an S10. People don't read.
