Adult WMs are NOT the .XXX "sponsoring community"

I caught the "Executive Summary" that was posted in the comments for XXX
http://forum.icann.org/lists/icm-opt.../msg13161.html

Kieren McCarthy(ICANN's former general manager of public participation) was hired by ICM to prepare an Executive Summary regarding the process options. You can read it in full here, along with my comments.
http://kierenmccarthy.com/2010/05/18...dot-xxx-issue/

So I posted asking why they separated the "adult community" from the "sponsored community" in their analysis.
- members of dot-xxx?s sponsored community
- members of the wider online adult entertainment industry

Their answer throws a whole lot of light on the situation, and I feel that we have to bring it to ICANNs attention ASAP,

Quote:

ICM?s argument, I believe, is that dot-xx is not intended to be for the whole adult industry but only those that want to sign up to it. So if you don?t want to sign up, you don?t have to. And it shouldn?t impact anything you do with .coms or .nets etc etc.
So they are saying that the "adult community" doesn't count, because the "sponsored community" only includes those that support XXX. :321GFY

I've already sent a couple emails to people who might be able to contact ICANN directly.

If you have any contacts that can bring this to the attention of ICANN before they actually make their decision, it would be great.

That's rather circular reasoning isn't it? Define the sponsoring community as "people who support us" and then you have the the support of the sponsoring by definition. Brilliant!

If this trick works on ICANN, then I will implement my idea for a sponsored TLD: .giveQmoney

The way it works is that anybody who wants to give me money is part of the sponsoring community, and anybody who doesn't isn't. Simple, right?

What's that you say? You don't want a .giveQmoney domain, but you're concerned about the impact on your established brands and existing .com sites if somebody registers {yourdomainhere}.giveQmoney domains? No worries! You can shield against people treading on your intellectual property or diluting your brand/marks by doing a simple defensive registration of {yourdomainhere}.giveQmoney, for the low, low price of $2000 per domain.

Thank you ICM for showing me the way to early retirement!! From here forward, never let it be said that Stuart Lawley has done nothing for this industry....
