Staff members at an agency that oversees offshore drilling accepted tickets to sports events, lunches and other gifts from oil and gas companies and used government computers to view pornography, according to an Interior Department report alleging a culture of cronyism between regulators and the industry.

In at least one case, an inspector for the Minerals Management Service admitted using crystal methamphetamine and said he might have been under the influence of the drug the next day at work, according to the report by the acting inspector general of the Interior Department.

Only makes me wonder how much more of this type of stuff will come out in the months ahead. Meth heads in charge of drilling, and we are surprised by a massive environmental catastrophe.

You do realize that the highways are full of truckers using meth (crank) every day right? I hope that most people are not naive enough to think that a large percentage of the people all around you in life are not on some kind of drugs all day long.

The newest trend is prescription drugs...but trust me: Every time you ride down the highway and you see those big ass 18 wheeler semi-trucks you are looking at a the big possibility that the guy is on meth behind the wheel.

Have any of you ever done methamphetimine? Or even know first hand what it feels like? Or do you just read the propaganda put out by the govt./pharmaceutical companies (who want you to pay for THEIR stuff instead)

Imagine drinking 20 cups of strong coffee real fast. Or taking 3 or 4 mini-thins. And then staying awake for a couple of days straight feeling that way the whole time.

That's pretty much meth. It's speed for you un-drug-educated people out there. A LOT of people in a lot of walks of life use it to get work done.

I don't like it because it doesn't get you "high" like doing cocaine will. And it lasts a couple of days in which you don't sleep or eat. So it's not the most healthy thing in the world.

But yeah...I could see where guys working oil rigs for long shifts in the middle of the ocean would definitely be taking speed. Makes sense. Not sure it has anything to do with the oil rig blowing up. From what I read there were some other issues that the workers informed BP about and were ignored by company brass.

But if the company chiefs at BP can get out of trouble by blaming the workers on site for taking speed (which has probably been going on since the first oil rig ever was built) then I'm sure they will push that to the front to save their own sorry asses.

I don't know if truckers take meth in the US, but here in Europe, there's strict rules for truckers. Even if they took meth, they would not be able to drive more miles. They need to strictly adhere to their sleeping hours, or they'll get reprimanded.

Well, we have friends and family who work out on those things, and they have strict drug testing. Regularly too. But it probably goes on, because where there's a drug, there's a will and there is a way. :1orglaugh

Really? I played in rock bands and traveled all over this country. Every town, every club, every stip club after hours...the truck drivers always had the best crank. I don't know what your experience is. But as the guitar player in the band I always got offered the good drugs. I don't like crank because I don't smoke stuff. So snorting it hurt like hell (burns like fire) But the couple of times I accepted it from the truckers in the crowd...I didn't sleep for days. I hated it. :(

But yeah, they had it. They knew where to get it anywhere in the country that they drove. And they always had the best stuff.

I do agree that guys driving trucks, working on oil rigs, and other long tedious shift jobs that require you to stay awake a long time shouldn't be taking shit that could lead to sleep deprivation. But life is what it is. And people don't always take their orders from "authority" (I know I don't lol )

Well, I was a long haul trucker for most of the 90's. Hauled everything there is from 48 states & Canadia. They drug test the hell out of drivers, the checkpoints are many, and in my 1.5 million professional miles, I only ever ran into one other driver in New Mexico that was doing coke in his truck in the parking lot and he was paranoid as shit. Now, I'm sure there are plenty of drivers out there doing shit they shouldn't be, but they are few & far between. The 70's are long gone.

Doing coke? Holy shit. Why would he do that unless he was just partying.

And I totally disagree with you. If you were a trucker and you didn't know any other truckers doing speed, then all the other truckers obviously didn't think you were cool and kept it on the downlow from you. Maybe you look like a cop? lol

pfft the funny thing is I know people (as cherry stated) working on oil rigs and well, lets just say, why do meth when you can get a legal script for Adderall and they dont test for that LOL its what all the cool kids are doing these days ;) Know people who trade good pot (hydro) for it.

Well, maybe I guess. Too many tattoos to look like a cop, lol... Maybe things have changed in the last eleven years since I got off the road, but I don't know how they would beat the drug tests or any random search by a trooper or weighmaster. Plus, meth is not really helpful for a long haul driver. Yeah, it might help you once or twice, but you typically gotta drive over 700 miles a day, every day. You need proper sleep to do that for more than a week. Meth just wears you down over time.

As FletchXXX just said...they are probably all doing adderol by now. I came off the road in 1998 from touring because my online porn biz was getting too big to handle while traveling 7 days a week.

And I think the last time I did meth with a trucker was 1994 in Johnson City Tennessee. Like I said, I don't like it because it doesn't get you high at all and it just keeps you awake. So maybe they have all chilled out on meth these days and turned to prescription speed. I'm unsure...I just realized how fucking OLD I am and probably out of touch with todays drug use. :(

over the past 5 years I have been astounded to see the amount of 21+ y/o using Adderal to party and often 3-5 times a week. First got my attention when my little cousin asked me if I knew anyone with a script for it so he could trade pot for it... i think its mostly because the new generation think if its from a doctor its safe. Id trust good old 90+% coke over big pharma adderall any day LOL

yeah, I saw a story on CNN about a girl and her boyfriend (both 19) who snort adderol and are addicted to it! Hell, at least with real cocaine (the snorting kind, not freebasing or whatever the hell chemicals are in "crack") you don't get addicted. I know some studies have argued that point about actual cocaine being addictive and I'm sure some people with highly addictive personalities do get addicted to it....just like they are addicted to cigs, booze, and anything else they come in contact with.

But this teenage couple were pathetically addicted. They physically could NOT stop getting adderol, crushing it up, and snorting it. Unreal!

Damn, all this drug talk...I'm gonna go out and party tonight at karaokexxx here in Vegas with a bunch of porn star whores, drink some adult beverages and buy an eight ball and kick a few lines. :)

EDIT: After I'm done partying tonight I think I'll give BP a call and see it they would like to hire me on as a "wildcat" on an offshore oil rig. Well, at least until I sober up.
