I been doing the same took my dog out twice and I'm still freaked out my dog will go under. My Black Lab mix is not scared of the water but swims like an amature, I want to train him to do dock diving and jump like 20 feet.

I'm not sure that's really teaching your dog to swim. Clearly the dog knows how to swim and can't be bothered unless you tell it too :) Cute dog though :)

Well, you don't really need to teach him. He knows.

Getting him into the water might be something he needs to learn. I can't keep my Lab out of the water.

It's true. The hardest part is to help the dog become unafraid of the water and for that you usually have to take him to the beach/river/lake from an early age. Swimming comes naturally to them, as it does to all animals.
