Black Crowes: Good band or not?

I say good. "Southern Hardmony and Musical Companion" stacks up with "Exile On Main street" IMO

They didn't do a ton of great stuff after, but I still think they are good.

Very underrated I agree

To me their first album was just great. It sounded like Rod Stewart singing with The Rolling Stones.

I feel that first album is still their best.

I remember I was playing at Charlie Magruders in Atlanta the first time the brothers appeared on Late Night With David Letterman and Fred the manager had us stop our set so the whole bar could watch them on television. (they were home town boys)

I like a lot of their stuff, but they really turned me off when I went to see them live. For the most part they put on a really good show. This was before the brothers were feuding and the band sounded great live. The problem was they didn't play one hit song. I'm not the kind of guy that demands to hear every hit live, but it would have been nice to hear a live version of She Talks To Angels or Jealous Again.

They play the whole show then leave and come back for an encore. They play a couple more songs then at the end as they say goodbye the crowd starts to boo them. Chris walks up to the mic and says that we can boo all we want, they aren't playing any singles because they don't do that kind of live show.

They came off like assholes. I still like some of the music, but I will never pay to see them again.

Saw them at the Fox Theater in Detroit. Excellent show, great band.

I think they only had one or two good songs...

Voted totally underrated although I only know their first two records.

What they did with Page was as close to Zeppelin as it goes, in fact I'd even dare to say they rocked one of the best concerts aver captured, and it's close to impossible to sound like Zeppelin.

Good band, would like to see them live.

It must be pretty hard to appreciate any bands from the past 30 years if you lived through the rock music at its peak I guess

Btw. I always wanted to ask, what are some memorable concerts you've seen?

It may be considered as blasphemy to say this, but Southern Harmony is BETTER than Exile on Main Street. :2 cents:

WebairGerard 05-23-2010 06:10 AM

Very underated band. They still rock.

Riffhard 05-23-2010 07:48 AM

They're a great, talented jam band. They just don't have any really memorable riffs/hooks methinks. I do like their live Stones covers, though. :)
