They are £1.29 here, so i'd only get 3½/day for that. Pretty sure I wouldn't be able to eat another one EVER after less than a week of just cheeseburgers though.

If you have no debt other than your house, it is really easy to live on >3k a month (depending on location). My family can survive on 2k a month. Of course thats no savings, going out, vacations ect.

True dat.

I can get by on roughly $2500.00 a month. That includes mortgage (4BR/2BATH), truck, seadoo, student loans, food, all utilities, insurance, minimal entertainment (movies/dining out once a week).

epitome 05-22-2010 08:09 AM

2 people, $6k a month.

Having no health insurance + a chronic disease eats up a chunk of that.

stever 05-22-2010 08:31 AM

200 a month for food?
shit i can eat 200 in like 4 days of just groceries

New York-fucking-CITY people. NEW YORK CITY.

$4k a month, minimum.

fuzebox 05-22-2010 10:25 AM

Love having no overhead. Internet $100, association fees $50, power $60, cell phone $20... Groceries we usually spend around $150-200/week on, depending what I'm cooking... that could go down if needed.

After reading some of these numbers I need to get the fuck out of the DC area.

...oh and cell phones...

Our cell phone bill is $230 a month for two phones.

Where the fuck are people getting cell phones for $20/mo.?

This thread makes me feel like a slave to the dollar. I'm doing something wrong.

Our School loans aren't debt, they're investments of a different type. Unless you want to count stocks, bonds, etc as a debt because you don't have the money.. outside of killer interest rates, it's an ongoing investment that is paying off very well and growing.

Let's be a little realistic too.. the total cost of living for many of those that are debt free in this post is lower than our monthly food bill, which kinda explains why they're able to live the life style they do.

I think school loans are the biggest crappiest thing ever, people are usually so young when they get into these things and don't know any better. :(

The Banks and Fed print the money out of thin air, then you have to slave your ass off to pay it back. Fuck them!! haha

Sorry, my girlfriend gets calls every day. Bastard Lizard people I tell ya!

School loans are debt just like a mortgage is. Although both are typically considered "good debt" as opposed to "bad debt" like credit cards or medical bills. Good debt has a purpose and hopefully a gain at the end.

How exactly are stocks and bonds a debt? Debt is when you owe money. What debt do stock and bond holders have?

I took it to mean bare minimum, like how long could you coast on $x amount if you had to.

I do take living debt-free with minimum monthly recurring overhead very seriously however. The lifestyle isn't for everyone obviously but I still believe it's superior.

CyberHustler 05-22-2010 12:55 PM

$200 per month for moms basement
$60 per month for my unlimited boost mobile prepaid blackberry plan
$55 per month misdemeanor probation fee
$50 per month on gas for using moms van on my weed runs
$150 per month for weed
$40 (maybe a little more or less) on lotto tickets

Moms pays all other bills and foodstamps takes care of the food...

I can survive on about $550 per month. I make more than that though and spend the extras on escorts.

ThumbLord 05-22-2010 01:16 PM

interesting read.
2 adults, 1 kid and a dog.
need about 4K a month on bills and food.
the rest is about 2K, so 6K in total does the trick.

Bird 05-22-2010 01:31 PM

No shame in my game, no basement but the back room.... I say $300

FrozenJag 05-22-2010 01:51 PM

No mortgage, no car loans, no cc debt here but worked hard to get to that point.

I prob could live on 2k/mo. Honestly I have no idea I just spend little as possible but def not afraid to heavily reinvest in my business.

Oh and no student loans as I didn't go to college.

If you're going to college without a purpose it's dumb... depending on you're loans are done, you can have it put in your bank account, as well as you use services, time, teachers, etc.. it can't be free.

Your GF should be responsible and pay up..

MissDiva 05-22-2010 02:41 PM

I can easy live with 2500$-3000$ all taxes/fees/rates included.

P.S.: Is there any webmaster from Vienna or Bratislava? I will visit those 2 cities the next weekend and i want to drink a beer with you guys.

Yes, I understand on the books it's a debt... you owe someone money.

However, that's not how I look at it. If overtime I invest $100k out of my pocket into stocks/bonds, etc... overtime I expect a return - but it might not. I see that no differently than borrowing $100k, slowly paying it back (like building my investment) until one day it's making money for us monthly (which still requires investment), much like a dividend would - even if my overall investment hasn't made it's return yet.

School loans are investments for life... if people do nothing with their life, I guess it's a debt for people then.
