does anyone know how to disable an airbag in a 1997 olds..
 

does anyone know how to disable an airbag on a 1997 oldsmobile eighty eight? I know there are fuses you can take out but i also believe there are some wires you can disconnect? im taking the car into some very rough situations and don't want to airbag to blow in my face...

take out the airbag fuse, its alot easier than finding the correct wires in the wiring harness

yep. Crash it into a wall, then a quick flick of a pocket knife should do the trick.

you should just be able to remove the airbag completely, battery out or disconnected first though. you don't want that thing to go off when you're trying to remove it LOL.

or if you still want it there find the wiring diagram, cut the wire and then reconnect it when you're done.

Takes about 3 seconds to pop the air bag out in most cars

Took it to Trudeau Park. They let bring in cars to fuck up. You can do jumps, mudding, smash into other cars while camping for the may 24 weekend. Its pretty fun but this car didn't last long. Timing chain or something broke and it was dead :( Monster truck ended running over it. Maybe I'll post some pics later.

As for the airbags..i just took the fuse out. I couldn't even get to the wires. Only problem was there was two fuses for the airbag, one of the fuses shared by something else that when you took it out, the car wouldnt start but either way with the one removed the airbag light was on so I assume it was all good and it didn't blow.

Modern cars do some pretty weird things when you fiddle with them. My automatic transmission won't change gears if the instrument cluster is disconnected (WTF!???!?!)

Har har. There were quite a few people taking their plated cars into the mud though, including a brand new mustang. I bought this car to destroy there. Its just too bad it died so fast.
